And wait until Raul Grijalva takes his chair…
So, what penalties can be levied if proven true that he lied to IG? Is it similar to lying to Congress or to FBI? Is a Congressional investigation needed if issue is about Casino and tribe is already suing?
I really want to see the House Committees be very focused. Of course racking up convictions against The Best People is not small potatoes.
Zinke never did anything for Trump. Trump could have been a good Interior Secretary. Who knows?
Wouldn’t it be easier to look into the cases where he didn’t lie?

[/quote]Well, he’s certainly not much of an Interior Decorator, at least to my preferred style which is a little more casual and a lot less gaudy.
.
The tribal suit is the one that is going to end up with Zinke in jail. It is and will be the subject of litigaiton, and he clearly was untruthful in his responses, and there is a private party that will use the full force of the federal courts (with a lot of $$$$ at stake) to uncover evidence.
DOJ can avoid it for a while (perhaps even two years) but Zinke will go down on that one…
and P.S. why did Zinke lie? Well he was meeting with MGM, whose CEO is one of the few corporate CEO’s who did not bail on Trump’s “infrastructure committee” and its possible that Zinke is so dumb he confused him with Sheldon Alderson.
I think this home decorating could be best characterized as “piss elegant.” Gives new meaning to the “PP Tape.”
This reminds me of when police find one dead body, investigate, then find the perpetrator. And as they delve further into his background, find out he’s committed many more murders over a long period of time. As various House committees look into Zinke, Pruitt, and others, they’ll discover all sorts of rot and criminality, on many levels and over a long period of time. After all, people don’t go corrupt overnight. And yes, I did just compare Trump’s Cabinet to serial killers.
Who could stand to live in a hotel lobby?
His flag, once so turgid and stately, is now sagging sorrowfully, awaiting the whirlwind that will leave it in tatters, forever forlorn, never to fly again.
Poor bastard.
“I worked for the administration for 22 months and all I got was this ass-tat.”
— Ryan Zinke
I thought it was called Dictator Chic.
Positively poetic!
IANAL but it looks to me like it falls squarely within the catch-all bin of 18 USC 1001
(a) Except as otherwise provided in this section, whoever, in any matter within the jurisdiction of the executive, legislative, or judicial branch of the Government of the United States, knowingly and willfully—
(1) falsifies, conceals, or covers up by any trick, scheme, or device a material fact;
(2) makes any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation; or
(3) makes or uses any false writing or document knowing the same to contain any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or entry;
An IG is basically an auditor, so it seems like they must exercise some sort of jurisdiction within this framework. Otherwise you’d just lie to the auditor all the time.
I’d love to be corrected or corroborated by an actual lawyer.
Lyingcheatgriftersayswhat?
Zinke’s foundation allowed land previously donated for the construction of a Veterans Peace Park to instead be used as a parking lot for a retail project in which Lesar is an investor…
How is that even legal, whether Zinke benefitted from it or not? How is it that you can accept property donated for one purpose and turn around and use it for another (commercial, not charitable!!) purpose?
I guess he must have taken the class on “20 Ways to Cheat with Charitable Foundations” at Trump’s business college.
Don’t they mean when, not whether?
Sort of like having an artist donate a painting to your charity, buying it at an inflated price with money from that very same charity, and then hanging it in one of your golf clubs. Only to later declare it worth 1/10 what you paid for it for beneficial accounting purposes.
I’ll save the gov’t a whole lot of money right now: yes, he lied his balls off.
Reminds me a little of an over-the-top castle I visited when I was in Germany many years ago. The guy that built it was known as “Mad King Ludwig.” He seems to have had the same love of gold leaf and French-inspired decorative excess as “Mad King Donald.” But he did use his own funds to build his castles (with some heavy borrowing, I believe), and he never married and supposedly never had any mistresses, either. Very unlike Mad Donald in that respect.
