Typically, this could be filed under " a State issue" - except that this guy is a POTUS wannabee. Over at DKos, one blogger has some draft communication between Walker's office - and reading what the Gov et al wants to exclude in his budget should make everyone who ever wanted to go to Public University in that State to be screaming bloody hell.

Does anyone really need more proof that Walker is a lying weasel? Please. Let’s stop pretending that this man is (a) smart and (b) actually cares about governing his state. He’s a tool of the Koch Brothers, making every effort to roll back progressive initiatives and create a “corporate subisidary” of Koch Industries. I do hope his nascent Presidential campaign crashes and burns. He does not belong anywhere near the levers of power.

OK, Governor Walker, we’ll take you at your word that this was a mistake. Does that mean you will now restore the $300,000,000 to the University system you were going to cut so you could give that money to one of your cronies to build a basketball stadium? Because those cuts are what will really kill the Wisconsin idea.

The Ist time Wisconsin voted for this joker was a mistake, the 2nd time was apathy and a lame Democratic alternative, the third time was clearly what Wisconsinites wanted. I have no sympathy for what Wisconsinites have wrought on themselves…they had their chance to save themselves and still reelected him.

Scott Walker, like many Wisconsin conservatives, has a very strong anti-intellectual streak in him. This is not new and goes way back. There have been others who have espoused the same thing in the Legislature for years. They hate UW-Madison, hate what it stands for and genuinely would turn it into a vocational school if they could. My memories go back to the anti-war demonstrations and we heard the same kinds of things that Walker is talking about. The problem is that then they couldn’t get good tickets to Badger football and basketball games. Trust me, this was no mistake.

Walker was hoping by taking out the word “truth” and eliminating the “Wisconsin Idea” he would be able to substitute it with “truthiness” and then the University system could teach anything the rightwing wanted to push to get its way. Read about the “Wisconsin Idea”. Its a thoroughly Progressive public policy adopted by the state and cherished for well over a hundred years. Walker is a fucking lying scumbag. He got caught red-handed and now is trying to backpedal with his unique brand of bullshit.

The Wisconsin Idea was created by the state’s progressives to do away with monopolies, trusts, high cost of living, and predatory wealth, which they saw as the problem that must be solved or else “no advancement of human welfare or progress can take place”.
