Discussion: Walker: Nation Should Follow My Lead On Education, Like Record $1B Funding Cut

Discussion for article #237345

Thanks Wisconsin, for enabling this jerk-off by not only failing to recall him, but by re-electing him. Ergo, confirming that the majority of Wisconsinites approve of his policies.

If the nation takes Mr. Walker’s lead we will have a nation of dumbasses.

I’m still saddened by the fact that after messing up Wisconsin once, they re-elected that goofy ass idiot. Makes one wonder what is up in Wisconsin…I mean Kansas, Oklahoma and even Texas, sure, electing idiots is common practice, but Wisconsin?

It’s my understanding that Walker is trying to remove qualifications for teaching in WI. So someone without a college degree could start teaching. IF this is true, it’s beyond a disgrace.

You’re not getting it, are you? A nation of dumbasses will keep electing RWNJ’s. These people are geniuses.

Right. Because the best way to the United States to compete in the world is through LESS education.

It would be worse than that.

A state can enact idiotic policies and make huge budget cuts and layoffs and get away with it because other states, via the fed, eventually foot the bill. Plus, those teachers who are laid off and the parents who get fed up with the education might eventually leave for another state with better opportunities.

If Walker had his way and that strategy were taken to the federal level, we would begin descending into a third world country, resembling some of the places we poke fun at.

I wonder how all of this has affected tuition rates in the state’s public universities. I suspect it is putting college further out of reach for even more people. The stupid never ends.

Scott walker, leading the nation in dumbing down our kids.

My state of Arizona cut $500 million plus out of education (K-12 and higher ed) just this year since January. They zeroed out our state’s community colleges ENTIRELY from the budget. Now corporations are rethinking doing business and setting up factories and headquarters here because their kids won’t be educated. It’s not rocket science people. it’s simple. Republicans hate education. I can’t say it any plainer.
When I moved to Tucson in 1968 the state provided 40% of the University of Arizona’s operating budget and my 1st semesters tuition was $250. Now the state supplies UNDER 6% of the schools operating budget and tuition is close to $15000 a year (still a comparative bargain). Yet the state has cut the university 46 years in a freaking row. By the way, isn’t it odd that republicans have controlled both state chambers here for the last 46 years exactly coinciding with those cuts I mentioned? Am I bitter about this? How long do ya want me to rant?

Too many Dem-leaning voters apparently continue to believe that the vote for president’s the ball game. A subset of those voters believe that so strongly that when the one they elected doesn’t accomplish everything they wanted just the way they wanted it they figure sitting out the midterms’ll teach him (just hims. so far) what happens when he disappoints them. (Which of course makes it that much more likely that they’ll be disappointed again.) Walker’s two regular elections were in midterm years; and his allies very effectively started discrediting the very idea of a recall barring murder or grand larceny for months before the actual election. And here we are.

(Surprisingly good AP story, btw; no hesitation calling out his bs, albeit with proper objective-journalist decorum, of course. Thanks to Scott Bauer for a reminder of the way it used to be; please keep it up, and give some lessons to Nedra Pickler.)

Walker is a sociopath.

Yep! The new budget has a section on lowering the requirements for teacher certification. A high school dropout could teach in some subjects.

Why don’t Republicans just bitch slap all the Soccer Moms out there and be done with it? They honestly think women voters are going to stand by and see school funding cut to finance more tax cuts for billionaires?

There isn’t going to be an apathy left by the time the primaries roll around. Imagine the indignation that the Silent Majority will be experiencing by the time they go to the polls. There is no way to get more Independents on the Democrat bandwagon than to nominate someone as anti-education as this Koch Brothers clown.

Please follow your own lead, and that of Brownback, right over the cliff. Run, don’t walk(er).

Not only did Walker have the largest cut to education per student in the nation but now there is a teacher shortage in some districts so now the teapublicans and Walker want to change licensing of teachers. Believe it or not they want to have high school dropouts licensed to teach! Many teachers retired or moved to another state after Walker enacted his “reforms”. So now they want to grant a license to teach to basically anyone. This college dropout clearly doesn’t value education.

Walker got elected the first time around by LYING to people. He claimed he would add 250,000 jobs in his first term. We all know that he failed miserably to do this as fewer than half that number were added to the Wisconsin economy. Not only that he eliminated the Commerce Dept., that was creating jobs, and set up the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) and appointed himself as chairman. The WEDC has not created any significant jobs and instead has been rocked by scandal after scandal including losing track of millions of dollars. It appears that the real goal of the WEDC was to act as a piggy bank to give millions of taxpayer dollars to campaign donors.

In the recall election he had 7 times as much money as his opponent. He ended up spending $23 for every vote he got and this doesn’t include all the dark money that flowed in to prop him up.

In the last election, Walker claimed he was NOT running for President and intended to serve out the four year term as governor. We know now that was another LIE by Walker. He also bought votes by reducing taxes, mainly for the rich. The average person got enough back to pay for a family meal of pizza.

So gullible voters voted for Walker. It also helped Walker to run for election in off years where there is lower voter turnout. Unfortunately we are stuck with this loser.
