ā€œWalker Administration: Wisconsin Will Recognize 500 Same-Sex Marriagesā€

…no more, no less…500 shall be the number of same-sex marriages recognized and the number of same-sex marriages WI will recognize shall be 500…not 501…and not 499, excepting that WI shall then proceed on to 500. 502 is right out. Once 500 be reached, being the 500th number, then shall WI wait for the Apocalypse.

Poor Walker…next thing you know, he’s going to be earning the wrath of the Christian Right for not going down with the ship.

Not only did Walker have no choice in the matter, he is hoist by his own petard because of his virulent opposition to equality (in all its myriad legal forms) which gained him points with his reactionary radical right base—points he is now in danger of losing because he didn’t keep tilting at that particular windmill.

He’s in a bad position electorally, and it shows.

His internal polling must be horrid. He usually doesn’t reach out to moderates. First choice, now this.

Judge Richard Posner----appointed to the 7th Circuit bench by St. Ronnie and no one’s idea of a liberal judge----wrote Walker’s political obituary in his decision on the Wisconsin voter-ID law.

ā€œThere is compelling evidence that voter-impersonation fraud is essentially nonexistent in Wisconsin.ā€ Assertions about voter fraud are ā€œa mere fig leaf for efforts to disenfranchise voters.ā€ He adds that ā€œsome of the ā€˜evidence’ of voter-impersonation fraud is downright goofy, if not paranoid, such as the nonexistent buses that according to the ā€˜True the Vote’ movement [a voter suppression organization originating in the tea party movement] transport foreigners and reservation Indians to polling places.ā€
Indeed, Posner writes, lists of the states that impose the strictest requirements ā€œimply that a number of conservative states try to make it difficult for people who are outside the mainstream, whether because of poverty or race or problems with the English language…to vote.ā€

Honestly, that’d be a very good ad strategy to run.

So how soon before men start marrying dogs, lamps, or their sisters?

Or was that just something that Wisconsin Republicans were lying about?

I know several men who want to marry lamps.
I’m going to tell them to move to Wisconsin right away!

Note: Worst fucking commenting system ever

There is nothing there to ā€œhit.ā€

And here’s a little secret—I’m gay.

@ThunderclapNewman Thanks for the Posner quote. U. of Chicago can be a bit proud of him, given the ongoing disaster known as Scalia.

ā€œAccording to Walker spokesman Laurel Patrick, when it comes to issuing marriage licenses the governor’s administration will treat same-sex couples the same as heterosexual couples.ā€

How nice of them to be willing to do the absolute minimum required under the law, after pushing for obvious discrimination for over a decade.

Good thing their law stating that businesses can discriminate against gay couples is still on the books, or else all would be lost for the GOP.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s office said that 500 same-sex couples who were married in June will be recognized as legally married couples in Wisconsin, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

…because the Supreme Court made them.
