I doubt he meant the Nazis, because “National Socialism” is a little too bookish and accurate for guys like him. And when they say “socialism” they don’t mean the state owns the means of production. They mean Vague Scary Badness in which Lazy Brown Blue-Staters Live Easy on Your Money.
None of it describes reality—when you’re trying to get people to vote against their economic interests you can’t describe reality accurately—so the terms don’t matter. They’re saying “If you have a gnawing sense of fear because the world is changing and things aren’t as secure as they once were, trust us to make everything OK again.” Trouble is in Kansas they may have cried wolf too many times.
It might also be because of the number of Republicans who are more intent on power than on governing … just saying that he might be missing the forest for the trees.
Not quite. The government is just expaning its definition of people to include corporations and businesses. The value of people is dependent on how much money thay’re able to contribute to Republicans.
“'There’s a palpable fear among Kansans all across this state that the America that we love and cherish and honor will not be the same America for our kids and grandkids,” Roberts said, "and that’s wrong. That’s very wrong.’
He lamented that people are ‘losing faith in their government’ and that the government ‘is losing faith in our people. That is a bad situation to be in.’"
I agree completely. And that, my friend, is why I will not vote for the incumbent.
DemONrats WanT to USHer IN a sOCialISTIC utOPIARy BY not rUNNING LIBtard DEMONRATS FOR pubLIC offiCE in OUR STATE. PREvent CREeping SOCIALIstics. ALL of AMerica SHould VOte FOR Pat ROBErts!!1!111!!!one!!!1!!!
With most conservatives you can’t tell whether historical references are intended or accidental but you can almost always figure that they weren’t well thought out.
Apparently, Roberts considers the courts, and their jurisdiction in interpreting actual laws in this country, to be a move toward socialism. Why does he hate America and the laws that he, himself, has worked so hard to enact for the good of us all? He seems to be implying that he prefers just one individual to make those legal interpretations, make a decree, and then force the rest of us to live by that interpretation. That sounds like fascism, in which case, i’ll take his version of socialism, any day. He’s broadcasting to everyone that he’s a danger to the American way of life.
Here’s some great advice, Aunt Pat (sorry, but “Gramps” is always reserved for McCain): find a local dealer in Kansas and score a hit of some great Purple Microdot. Then sit in a nice, comfortable chair and hallucinate that you are still Senator for the next six years.
Of course, this is very different from Lazy White Red-Staters Living Easy on federal tax transfers from predominantly liberal states, located primarily on the Coasts, with diverse and robust economies and diverse populations.
America has changed a lot over the last 200 years or so, I am sorry that Mr. Roberts thinks that change is wrong. As to the loss of faith related to government, people like him are the problem, not the solution. In this country, wealth is being concentrated at the top, that is not socialism and his claim to the contrary is just another lie. This country use to stand for opportunity for all not just the few, the fact that our elected officials no longer believe in opportunity for all to protect the few is not the kind of government this country needs.
Presumably that’s his fallback position when, inevitably, someone asks about it, giving him a second chance to say the words in front of cameras. “You don’t understand, I wasn’t comparing my opponent to Hitler, I was comparing him to Brezhnev.”
But it’s also a safe presumption that Roberts is politician enough to know exactly when to let the words “National Socialism” pass his lips. It’s your basic 3rd-and-long play.
The Nazis were not Socialists. In fact, Hitler despised socialists. Nazi Germany was a Fascist regime…not a socialist one. Thats what caused the Soviets and Stalin to enter WWII. Hitler attacked Russia as a socialist power (although one could argue that had become fascist as well.)
Yet another desperate Republican playing the fear and hate cards…would be nice if instead he could lay out a positive agenda for the county…but wait, he is a republican…they dont have one.
I also find it quite amusing that the major troll on this website takes his name from the fictional character Eustace Tilly, who was created by an artist at The New Yorker magazine, and the troll is so stupid he could not even READ an article printed in The New Yorker magazine because it would be too far above his kindergarten reading level.
