Looks like, deep down, GOPer clowns don’t really believe the con man. After all, he told them (yesterday!) that it’s a conscience vote, then brought out the long knives.
They probably felt they had no choice to keep their seats…voting against Trump is probably going to lead to a primary from some right wing nut that has a good chance at winning the primary while losing the election. They likely figure that they have a better chance at having this vote forgotten by the time Nov 2020 rolls around, while it would be a major item in the primary election. Fealty to Trump so they get six more years in the Senate is worth it.
Of course, that’s the problem, they exchanged their integrity, and their duty to defend the Constitution, to stay in power. For that reason alone they should be shown the door, and hopefully the voters in their states do so.
Fools. And liars.
So, basically, Tillis just said: “I have no intellectual honesty.” I’ll take him at his word on this.
Your comment had interesting timing.
I just read this before coming here.
The fact they have to cling so hard to Trump’s base by being toadies to him tickles me. There is a good chance that the Trump Base is really not what it seems. Bigger in image, more fluffed up, loud and vulgar but in the long run, not a base I would depend on in numbers and persistance. But the GOP cannot survive without them. And after two years, the reality may catch up with them. By leaning so hard on that base, they have failed to build a more consistent one, losing those who just cannot tolerate what has happened. It tells me that outside of the Trump Base, the numbers for GOP support are really dismal.
They’d have been better off facing underfunded primary challengers than going into the general election against Democrats who’ll absolutely hang this around their necks as yet another example of their fealty to PP and not their country, the Constitution, or the oath they swore. This vote perfectly makes the Democratic case as to why they need to go.
I would prefer that the headline read: Senate Republicans who stick with Trump on Border Declaration are Vulnerable in 2020.
All they need to have lost in order to lose the election is about 80,000 votes in three states. That’s it. What’s the likelihood that he hasn’t lost at least triple that many votes? They’ve been listening to PP’s hype about crowd size and the his big win for so long that they’ve actually talked themselves into believing it really was a landslide. It was not. And PP is the type of person who doesn’t grow on you with time. Time just reveals him to be dumber, fatter, uglier, and meaner than you previously thought.
O Cornyn thank you for doing exactly what I wanted you to do. I knew you would, too.
So bye Felicia! Last quinnipac poll had three out of every five Texas voters disapproving of the emergency declaration for the wall Texans do not want at all.
Cory Gardner will soon need to choose new office furniture for his next job as an oil and gas lobbyist. Adios, MFer, you’ve done such a stellar job representing us here in Colorado.
And BTW I doubt any Rethug would be able to topple him in a primary so it’s not about that. In the general he’s going down hard. And to think that not long ago this little ick-pray had dreams of being in Rethug leadrship!
The decision today was simple. Go with the Constitution or Trump. Those who chose Trump today all deserve to lose their seats.
Resoundingly!
I really don’t want it to be close.
A) Ugghhh with these law-and-order hypocrites for undermining the separation of powers in our constitutional republic.
B) Anything that hurts vulnerable Republicans in the 2020 Senate contests is a good thing, as structurally it will be insanely difficult for Democrats to get a Senate majority without statehood for D.C. and Puerto Rico, and/or an amendment that bumps it up to 3 senators per state.
I think the base is more fragile than they believe. Trump is aware, hence the lying and embellishing. It takes one thing to break it apart. Since it is built on the lunatic fringe, he has to stay the lunatic, which is not hard for him at all.
Checked Corey Gardeners meat thermometer, at 165F. ,you’re well done dude
Votes like this make the vulnerable Republicans choose: stick with Trump and risk their seat (maybe if Trump is unpopular enough; plausible for AZ, NC, CO) or if they don’t, deal Trump a resounding rebuke.
Get ready to get your ass handed to you Mr. Gardner…you just can’t seem to do the right thing…even when it is so obviously the right thing…see you at the polls… coward.
Which is why Mitch never schedules 'em. He only scheduled this one because the statute forced him to. And I’m half surprised he didn’t find a way to weasel out of it anyway.
