Discussion: Virginia Tobacco Panel Cancels Meeting On Lawmaker's Job Prospect Amid Resignation Controversy

Actually, it works better for them to walk away and let pusbucket here twist in the wind. There is no downside for them here if they just walk away, they could even play it that they were taken in.

Excellent point! He sold his seat for a job and a job for his daughter. Itā€™s a direct exchange.

A VA State Senator on Now with Alex Wagner was absolutely livid. She was saying he was the most vulnerable Democrat in the last election. She said Democratic lawmakers rallied around him and gave him over $350,000 out of their own campaign funds. If he broke the law, Democrats will the ones leading the charge. This was a woefully stupid thing to do.

Wait a damned minute! I went in the tank for you, and now Iā€™m not going to get the quid pro quo? Whereā€™s my lawyer?

Looks like it goes down to a charge of attempted bribery. Ought to be warrants for the computers of all concerned including the daughter. She needs to be exonerated if inocent and nailed if not.

Is anyone else getting the impression that the more that comes out about Bergdahlā€™s capture and imprisonment, the more the right backs off? I wonā€™t be surprised if we discover Bergdahl wasnā€™t deserting, that he went off base for some benign reason. If that turns out to be the case this could be a big problem for Republicans.

The Governor should do what Governor Brewer did. Veto every bill they pass until they get on board with the Medicaid expansion.

They will come around just like Arizona did.

People always rail about the Fedrul Gummint but Iā€™ve always thought the state level is where the real crazy and corruption is most freely practiced.

Now Puckettā€™s daughter should let that promised judgeship pass by as well.

And the real tragedy, tens of thousands of Virginians will not be able to get affordable heath insurance.

Isnā€™t it also a tragedy that Virginiaā€™s tobacco commission had a key no-show job it was trying to fill and the cigarette industry may now have to struggle on without a pliant stooge protecting them from where he was supposed to be planted?

Itā€™s unbelievable that this guy didnā€™t know thereā€™d be blowback.

So the republicans got what they wanted, and heā€™s effed, as are the people in VA who need health care.

What a moron.

I will edit this to say that heā€™s probably effed temporarily, and heā€™ll get a cushy job. Otherwise? A definite gullible moron.

Somehow, I think there are plenty of pliant stooges willing to take the money and run.

Thereā€™s always Whirled Nuts Daily. They hired Pat Boone, theyā€™ll be thrilled to get Phuckett

If the job is still open, Iā€™ll take it! Iā€™m sure I can simulate ā€œpliant stoogeā€ just long enough to get my butt planted on that seat. Nothing like a commission sinecure to make oneā€™s day.

Why not?
If TreyRadelChrisChristieScottWalkerJohnEnsignMarkFoley can do it?

The distinction-- as far as Iā€™ve been noting-- is one between AWOL and desertion.
According to TPMā€™s veterans who have opined on the difference?

Desertion, from what Iā€™ve gleaned, is very difficult to prove-- where AWOL occurs not infrequently-- and itā€™s up to a CO to report and/or discipline.
Bergdahl was most certainly AWOL-- more than once.
His having returned from those excursions shows a pattern that doesnā€™t rise to the level of desertion.

Until the circumstances of his disappearance are known-- itā€™s impossible to claim desertion.
Unless of course youā€™re afflicted with ODS.

Ditto! He should find a bridge and jump.

I wouldnā€™t trust him with a 10ā€™ pole!! this sounded unethical from the get go! so does he return to the senate, or is the seat still vacant?

he never deserted. his unit came under fierce attack from the taliban and he was captured.

How utterly craven and disgusting - cannot a group of people whose parents will not get insurance or healthcare now file some kind of mass civil suit against this guy for their financial losses and mental anguish and physical pain and suffering? He literally snatched insurance and therefore healthcare out of their hands through a criminal plot.
