Discussion: Virginia Guv Will Reinstate Concealed Carry Reciprocity In Deal With GOP

I certainly hope so, but remember, we’re dealing with the VA legislature here. I really believe they are hoping for another Republican like McDonnell to be elected in the next gubernatorial race, so they can then overturn the compromise with another bill if that happens.

McAuliffe has done a pretty good job as governor so far. The big difference between him and Emmanuel is that the latter is the mayor of a Democratic-stronghold city with the party in an overwhelming position in the council, while the former is governor of a centrist state with Republican control of the legislature. Despite that, he’s fought very, very hard for some key Democratic priorities (Medicare expansion) even if he hasn’t won all of his fights, and here is an instance of him making a reasonable compromise with the opposition (which is good governance).

I agree with you on that. It’s actually impressive all that he’s been able to get done in Virginia with a Republican dominated state legislature. I still hate the fact that the whole issue with the Medicaid expansion isn’t being done due to any financial hardship on the state, but due to ideological purity from the Republicans.

Dumbass.

No. We’ve all lost with something that will never be taken back - hand gun and non-sporting rifle ownership. There was no reason to do this.

This is a good thing! What is it to the state of Virginia if I want to carry a gun in the state of Virginia?

GUMMINT OVERREACH!

Try not to shoot yourself in the face.

If these derps were only killing themselves, I don’t think I’d care all that much.

trippin: Virginia does not allow individuals with histories of stalking, dealing drugs or receiving mental health treatment in patient facilities to obtain licenses, but other states do.

and you need to “reciprocate” to get something as commonsense as this? this is why the nra sucks. well, there are other reasons too.

Because freedom:

So does this mean that like Texas now gun humpers in VA can conceal their hogleg and carry it into public buildings and schools?

Thanks for making Virginia more dangerous.

It’s that attitude that gets nothing done. Politics should be about getting things done through negotiations.

How was concealed carry responsible for the dead kids? In fact, the expanded laws that are part of this get rid of the gun show “no background check”, as well as not allowing people with restraining orders to have guns. It not only does not allow them to buy guns, but the ones they own can be taken away. Chances are that those measures will prevent a lot more violence than allowing concealed carry.

It’s a step in the right direction. If it’s this or nothing, I’ll take this.

Republicans compromise, and ban some guns.

Reciprocity allows states with gun laws so lenient that a mentally ill stalker drug dealer who may be homicidal may lawfully pack not only under the misguided laws of his own state, but in VA too.

Essentially this “compromise” trades fewer victims here for more victims there. It will save the lives of those who would not be killed by domestic abusers who are subject to a two year protective order or by gun show background checks that thwart sales to killers-in-waiting while it would add to victims of stalkers, the mentally ill who are homicidal, and drug dealers.

Compromise indeed, and progress… unless you happen to be one of the law’s victims because you have the misfortune to be in the line of fire of some red state stalker or psycho killer.

Right, please tell me that this is the first step in a bigger plan.

Think about this, you’d be better off, gun ownership wise, to claim to be an insane, stalker, having murderous visions while being wacked out on the dope that you’re dealing than to being a wife beater.

This isn’t a compromise, it’s a rearranging of the gun toting nut jobs that likely have tendencies in all classifications. None of which should include gun ownership anywhere.

Part of the reason those kids are dead is because of the easy accessibility to guns in this country. Any ground gained in that aspect of “gun control” should not be ceded.

I definitely see a net gain of ground. If you lose some ground in one area, but gain more in another area, that is better than gaining no ground at all.

Reciprocity

IOW, we’ll gladly accept the stupidest states idea of what is smart and best to require for a concealed carry gun permit…

And this is going to be the danger if Hillary is elected president! She will make deals with Republican’s like Obama tried to do in his first term and unlike with Obama who is black Hillary is white so she will be successful in selling out progressives to Republicans! Progressives need to understand that Hillary like her husband are left wing Republicans masquerading as Democrats!! Republicans have pushed the political dialogue so far right that what was considered right wing before Bush won is now the center…
