No, we don’t. IAVA, all the rest, they make news more often because they speak up more often, but having the VFW condemn you is like having the AARP or the Knights of Columbus call you out. This is bad for Trump. This is potentially ‘stick a fork in him’ bad.

Donald “the draft dodging coward” Trump avoided service during Viet Nam by using very questionable medical deferments (which I’m sure he paid dearly for). As a result, not only is Trump obviously ineligible to be President, he should be publicly labeled a draft dodger.
Trump also tried to steal $1 million from Veterans groups earlier this year. For this he should be publicly labeled a thief.
We do not need a draft dodging thief in the White House.

I don’t know about that. I think a lot of down ballot races are going to feel the heat from having Trump at the top of their ticket. And just like 2012, the GOP will recognize it’s got to totally change to ever have a chance in another national election, and probably do nothing about it.
But the voters will remember. Maybe not all, or even most… but there a reason demographics are shifting away from the GOP, and it’s because these dents don’t ever buff out.
This situation is going to hurt Trump more than anything including playing footsie with Putin because this is the ultimate essence of how his base perceives itself: patriotic, give my life for my country American. Their view of Muslims won’t change, but the Khans are now seen as individuals and are now, to them, American.
It may be the one and only thing Trump could do that will hurt him with at least part of his base (and with those who might have voted for him just because of him being the gop nominee) and he has done it. It won’t be forgotten or forgiven by many of that group.
If he had any chance at all in this , he has just cooked his own goose with the very things that got him this far, his bullying and his big mouth.

Trump definitely needs to quadruple down on this one.
He may be able to alienate an entirely new group that was heretofore unavailable to be touched by his offensiveness.
It shows to go ya that if you are persistent and have that sticktoitiveness factor, you can do anything.
It also proves that if pushed, Donald has a whole other set of gears to switch to that he can use to up his pace and really get moving with his derogatory insults.
Sort of a split transmission of low, torquey gears and a tall built for speed set.
