Discussion: VA Secretary Says He Regrets Expensive European Trip On Taxpayer Dime

Resign, you grifting blame-shifting punk. That would be a graceful and meaningful acknowledgement of your regret. Listen: take a penny out of your pocket and look at it. See Lincoln’s nostril? That’s how much more of my tax money I want to see you rake in. Carpetbaggers all of them.

No, you regret getting caught and having to pay the money back.

Country Club government. Excess at tax payers expense. Doctor an email then say you “had no intent”. How much you wanna bet that eMail doen’t attract Trey Gowdey’s concern.

The inspector general found that chief of staff Vivieca Wright Simpson doctored an email to make it seem like Shulkin was receiving an award from the Danish government during a trip in July in order to obtain government funding for his wife’s plane ticket, which cost more than $4,300.

Certainly this constitutes some sort of crime. How is it Simpson isn't suspended pending an investigation?

I imagine he’ll resign shortly. Probably today. But for now he’s content with blaming this mess on staff. Why would his staff do this for him but keep him in the dark? The premise is ridiculous. It was a rushed excuse that will buy him nothing.

In any other administration, this would be a major scandal and the secretary and COS would probably be out the door. In the Trump maladministration, it’s a footnote.

I have no interest in hearing about his regrets, only his resignation.

I agree. But the Trump administration is an aberrant collection of unqualified amateurs so I guess we should expect aberrant and amateurish behavior from them.

I think all Trump has done is dump a few truckfuls of toxic waste into the swamp he promised to drain.

There is no possible way that your chief of staff accidentally submits a falsified email message in support of an expense request. I guess if someone is completely ignorant of how government works and of expense rules, they might just tell the CoS they would like to take their spouse along and not pay attention to what had to be done to make that happen. But if so, they are certainly not qualified to run a department.

What he really regrets is that he would have got away with it if it weren’t for those meddling kids.

Even the Trump Administration must occasionally throw something of a conciliatory nature to the sharks.
I’ll bet Shulkin is out by 230 this afternoon.
As he is the dimmest of the the dim,a low-hanging fruit, the beast will barely pause to burp after swallowing him whole.

Unbelievable that he planned a trip and now says, oh I did not understand. Heck, when I plan something I take ‘cost’ into it and it appears he did not.

He was originally an Obama appointee; none of this happened during the Obama Admin. So it is something uniquely about the Trump admin that ‘leads’ its people to this. He saw Price and Zinke et al just ‘doing it’ and found out he ‘could’ do it so he ‘did’ do it.

Disgusting. This is disgusting.

“…but at least I didn’t give my wife a black eye! Yet.”

He signed his own paperwork. Fire 'em both.
