Discussion: Utah AG Threatens To Sue Obama Over Newly Designated National Monument

One of my fellow students asked our professor (who was nationally known), “Could you sue for…?”

The professor replied, “You can always sue. The question is, Can you win?”

Why not pave it all? Save us all the trouble, pave it and build a string of McDonalds.

Obama: Oh, another GOP lawsuit? Toss it on the stack.

So the Utah AG thinks he can steal public land?

Utah’s public lands deserve stewardship…

I believe we’ve identified a serious flaw in your position. Whose lands?

And in this case I believe the answer is a resounding “No” is it not, OC?

Of course, that’s no reason not to waste copious amounts of taxpayer dollars. (see Kobach, Kris)

Well, you see, Obama isn’t a real President because he’s black. So, nothing he does actually counts.

In other, entirely unrelated news, I really hate this idiotic racist GOP.

Darn, I was hoping they would auction off the land around Bundy Ranch. 640 acre parcels to the highest bidder, proceeds to the Office of Nation Debt.

Why would any R complain about that?

Statement: “Rather than shut out local residents, the Administration should look for ways to strengthen schools, pave roads, and build the local economy."

Response: Rather than waste state taxpayer money on yet anther frivolous lawsuit, why not look for ways to strengthen schools, pave roads, and build the local economy?

Here’s an important article about the Antiquities Act, guess why?

Umm wouldn’t that be federal governmental interference in local affaires? Something that youse guys hate because your federal government representatives have fought tooth and nail against those things for the last eight years?

He’s just setting the stage for the incoming administration which will do large scale sell off of public lands to private companies.

Riding roughshod over Cliven Bundy and his ilk isn’t such a bad thing.

Hahahahahaha no.

“[T]he Administration should look for ways to strengthen schools, pave roads, and build the local economy.”

  1. The GOP wants to abolish the Dep’t of Education. Why is it suddenly the president’s job to strengthen schools? [rhetorical question]
  2. Most roads, even in Utah, are the responsibility of the local municipality, county or the state.
  3. This, from the UT gov’s FY2018 budget proposal, p. 79-- “[T]he state should exercise caution to not become overly reliant on federal funding and the attached strings…”

The Utah AG is a whiner.

Exactly… the President’s powers to designate national monuments is pretty iron clad. I don’t think even later Presidents can rescind it.

But, you know, have fun bloviating, guys.
