Discussion: US Diplomats Barred From Ice Bucket Challenge

Discussion for article #226727

But by then, Power and the other ambassadors got the memo.

Very clever, using a common figurative turn of phrase literally.

Uhhhh, both “private” and “gain” don’t apply?

These non-profits are public charities. Also, what “gain” is the ambassador receiving?

There’s something as being too fucking diplomatic. Did anyone notice that in this campaign, you either donate or dump an ice-bucket over yourself (while many choose to do both.) So, what “private gain” is someone who dumps an ice-bucket instead and doesn’t donate either receive or provide?

I heard that quite a few diplomats were going to post videos before the State Department poured cold water on the whole idea.

“There are firmly established rules preventing the use of public office, such as our ambassadors, for private gain…”

OK. Just how is this “private gain”? We have open fucking bribery going on in government and call that speech, but someone pouring ice water on themselves is somehow considered private gain. Who’s running the State Department, the Ferguson police chief?

So easy that dubya can do it by himself…

Oh wait!

Never mind.
