Discussion: Unpopular GOP Candidates Mulling When To Pack It In

Discussion for article #242620

He is facing a major cash crunch, ending the last fundraising quarter with $261,000 on hand. But his financial disclosure forms show heā€™s finding ways to campaign cheaply, bunking at affordable hotel chains. Santorum, who is also low on cash, appears to be looking around for deals on online travel sites, with multiple payments to Expedia and Hotels.com.

Pretty hilarious to have two potential Presidents brought down to using Airbnb and Uber to keep their campaigns afloat. Who knows? One of us might end up driving these guys around town.

Running for president can be a stepping stone to high-profile television jobs and other lucrative opportunities.

Ding ding ding ding!

No one seems to mind or admit that Fox News is selecting the Republican presidential candidates and ranking them as most or least favorable to attend the debate. Is there a Republican Party anymore?

In modern G.O.P. politics, everything is a commodity and, therefore, suitable for marketing possibilities.

Even ā€œmullingā€.

Like a golfer turning pro can I buy a slice of future earnings now? Iā€™d really like 2 or 3 net points of Rubioā€™s money down the road.

Jeb Bush supporters have said the crowded field is contributing to the former Florida governorā€™s struggle to gain traction.

What a weird way to put it. Dude, you are the crowded field!

Hey give credit where itā€™s due. Itā€™s true that when you split the vote between fewer trailing candidates, each of their percentages is more likely to go up, and doing math correctly is an improvement over there!

"They need to recognize that moment and make a move," Madden said.

That is really funny on SO many levels ā€”

HuChristie hanginā€™ on in hopes the KochBoys will pay 'em to get outā€¦

Or their superPACs collect enough to afford a comfortable life style for each of themā€¦

ā€œIā€™ll go there, debate, and as soon as I leave the debate Iā€™ll go to
Iowa and get back to work,ā€ Christie said Friday.

Thatā€™s really interesting, mainly because youā€™re the governor of New Jersey, you fat fuck. Did it ever occur to you to ā€œget back to workā€ there?

ā€œIā€™ll go there, debate, and as soon as I leave the debate Iā€™ll go to Iowa and get back to work,ā€ Christie said Friday as he filed his paperwork to run in the New Hampshire primary.

A New Jersey resident might point out that Christieā€™s salaried job is Governor, not running for President. But I suspect that most residents are grateful heā€™s not paying much attention to NJ.

I suspect you donā€™t live in NJ. If you did, youā€™d want Christie to stay as far away as possible.

Whatever made you think that Fox News and the Republican Party were two different things?

Iowa sure has a bunch oā€™ gubernorsā€¦why would Christie be back to work in Iowa? isnā€™t he governor of another state? or have they run him off? I thought Iowa smelled bad before the gop got thereā€¦with all that lipstick on pigs ya would think someone would bring some perfumeā€¦

Lindsey Graham for President!

Much as I hate to agree with Donald Trump, but yes, Jindal, Graham, Santorum and Pataki (I keep forgetting those last two are even in the race) should just give it up, theyā€™re obviously going nowhere. Things are not looking much better for the next tier of candidates, Christie, Huckabee, Paul, Kasich, Fiorina. The spectacularly underperforming Jeb Bush ought to at least be competing with Rubio and Cruz, but Jeb is too busy failing and flailing. I suspect Carson and Trump have both peaked, but I think it will be up to Rubio and Cruz to try to salvage this election for the GOP, ā€˜cause it looks like poor olā€™ Jeb just ainā€™t up to it.

BetweenTheLines:

Each of the candidates has so far vowed to stay in the raceā€¦

ā€¦until theyā€™ve accumulated a large enough mailing list,
and grifted enough cash to last them until the 2020 POTUS primaries.

All but the newbies have known for a couple of months at leastā€“
that there would be no more traction than they had at that juncture.
(Do we really want a POTUS who canā€™t understand when a situation is futile?)

All that remains is thieving from gullible Ā®ubes tithing their butter&eggmoneyā€“
in support of their single-issue candidate-of-choice.

If popularity is the measuring stick, then only Trump and Carson should stay in, their lead is 5 to 10 times bigger than the not so popular chumps and much more.

It looks to me like Rubio is going to pull this thing off by default. JebBush is such a magnanimous disappointment and Cruz is the leader of teabagger central and that wonā€™t amount to a hill of beans. Trump and Carson may be popular but they arenā€™t Presidential by a long shot and the rest are just the rest. Yep, it looks like Rubio to me and heā€™s a piker in comparison to our candidates.

Plus, Rubio hasnā€™t gotten the treatment yet and you had best believe that itā€™s coming and coming hard.
Personally, I want to hear the dirt on him, he has gotten a pretty big pass so far.

Jersey resident here. Our LT. Governor, Kim Guadagno is just as bad as he is. Sheā€™s going to use this for her run, next term. What we need is Cory Booker to run for Governor and chop this Christie tree down. But, from all accounts, itā€™s going to be Steve Sweeney. Heā€™s the head of the DNC in Jersey. Smart, well like and respected guy. But if it was Booker, it would be a lock that Dems take back the Governor seat. Sweeney vs. Guadagno is going to be too close for my liking.
