Discussion for article #229241
Damn, almost enough cops on scene to screw in a light bulb…
You don’t have to be a violent psychopath with a hair trigger reactionary response to be a cop, but apparently, it helps.
Kick first, ask questions later.
Uh oh. I think someone’s gonna get promoted.
Maybe we are all missing something here. Maybe not overheard was the kicker saying: “I told you not to touch my girlfriend!” before getting a boot in…
Hey Cops – the whole world IS watching. Come out of the darkness and into the light.
Chuck Norris would have stood the guy up first, so he could roundhouse him.
Chuck Norris would get his old, dumbass kicked by my cousin’s ten year old daughter.
Well sure, but he should have at least taken enough time to identify which non-uniformed person in the scrum was the white guy before kicking.
Hope they fire him. Asshole.
If not for the last four guys to come out that guy totally would have broken free and killed like a bajillion people.
Aside from everything else–the guys do realize that the fellow at the bottom of their pile-on is not a murderer, not a terrorist, not a child-molester–but just some stupid kid who jumped a turnstile?
And apparently, kicking someone in the head for this sin is considered reasonable with these guys?
Also–you can’t really see his face, but five bucks says that the cop who was kicked was Black.
Let’s be clear about what the problem is here.
There is decades of experimental research with live test subjects (albeit much of it done before there were tight ethical constraints on such research), and much history, that demonstrate that brutality is the inevitable consequence of combining impunity with the authority to use force. When you give a group the right to use force, limitations on the use of that right must be infused into the group identity as strongly as the right itself. When you, instead, permit a culture of impunity to take hold, brutality and atrocity inevitably follow.
Doesn’t matter who the people you give the guns are. It’s the imposition of the cultural norms that’s important.
NYPD motto: Kick’em all in the head and let God sort it out.
That seems to be the real story here - jumping a subway fare in NYC is apparently grounds for a pile-on and severe beating by three cops. If it had been the suspect “correctly” kicked in the head, it wouldn’t have made the news or any disciplinary action even with the video.
Are you advocating for Jedi Knights? Because awesome.
“WATCH: Plainclothes NYPD Cop Mistakenly Kicks Fellow Officer In Head”
Dude didn’t “mistakenly kick” anyone. He kicked someone n the head with booted feet ON PURPOSE. Period. Full stop.
That wasn’t a “mistake”.
Terrible headline, TPM.
C’mon, that video was 88 seconds long. Was it too difficult for you to sit still for 88 seconds and watch it?
BTW, he wasn’t black.
Unlucky NYC cop: in Chicago, he’d be made a Commander.
