Thanks. We should never lose sight of how much of the crap we are getting out of the White House is there just as sleight-of-hand distraction while the real damage is being done.
Not sure on which thread, but someone (you?) pointed out a Save-the-EPA protest going on in Chicago.
As long as they don’t bumble us into a shooting war, chaos in the White House is probably preferable to a well-oiled machine. Maybe we should build a wall around it.
Huh?!?!
I think even well-meaning Washington-based media should don sackcloth and run to their thesauri for words tinged with a pinch of darkness or an absence of the innocence a foible implies.
Foibles = debasements or perversities or contaminations or vitiations
Growing pains = awkwardnesses or hidden truths or untoward moments
I, for one, wish certain chickens happiness on their homecoming.
Love it. If ever there is a lull in the news, Dems. should take advantage with a loud demand for the “insurance for everybody” that’s “better and cheaper” than what they have now, which Trump explicitly promised.
Bannon wants a new world order and that does not include the current Republican Party (or the Democrats, to be sure). Republicans may feel like they are in “alignment” with Trump, but he is just using them for his (and Bannon’s) own ends. Besides, this “alignment” can’t last long at the rate he is going. At some point in the not too distant future, Republicans will wake up and realize they no longer have a viable Party.
Their biggest struggle seems to be that their own goals are incredibly bad ideas, which are deeply unpopular among their consituents. They are trying to be leaders when their jobs are to be representatives, and they don’t even recognize the difference.
Business leaders are torn as well. Of course they want lower taxes, fewer regulations and a general cultural deference which borders on having their rear ends kissed regularly. But they want money too, and the culture of inclusion is better for their bottom line. Witness the declining ratio of humor to kumbaya in Stupor Bowl commercials.
“Our priorities are in complete alignment: border security, cyber security, combatting Islamic terror,” said Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI). “Our priorities are in complete alignment with the administration so it’s pretty simple.”
Border security, cyber security and combatting terror? Yes, “[y]our priorities are in complete alignment with the [Obama] administration.”
Hypo-manic and reportedly working 16 hours a day, Stephen Bannon is a genius visionary. He must be, he supports and fosters white supremacy with his propaganda Web site (Breitbart) with a proclivity for publishing fake news, he disparages real news and reporting, he’s a slob, his nose is red, he’s pro Putin, he’s against separation of powers with his psycho (Trump) at the helm, while he and Trump have created, and continue to create, chaos.
Bannon: he’s exactly the visionary America needs to create a new and better world order – just ask him.
The Republicans are so deserving of everything Trump throws in their way. Their misery, my / our joy. And then together as Republican congressmen and president, they are so clearly together and one and the same, that which can be despised for all the reasons they bring to it. There is no daylight there, they own it all. May they fail in their hideous plans and then thrown out of office at the earliest.
It’s always interesting to me that, in general, most Americans tend to lump Germany in with GB when it comes to healthcare, i.e., seem to assume there is nationalized healthcare. We have NOTHING which even vaguely resembles the NHS in the UK.
In fact, in Germany, the system pretty strongly resembles Obamacare: we have “private” and “state” health insurance-- both of which are provided by private companies. The “state” health insurance companies must conform to specific regulations which, among other things, regulates how much the company may increase premiums from year to year, helps keep deductibles down, and which prohibit any profits from exceeding a certain amount (every so often we get a refund at the end of a “good” year). Most importantly, the state-regulated ones help to keep a cap on premiums after retirement. The “private” health insurers can change whatever they want – and their favorite trick is to suck people in at an early age with deceptively low premiums which then escalate dramatically after it is too late to switch to a state-regulated one (which relies on a broader pool earlier on).
My premiums in my (“state regulated”) health insurance are shared between me and my employer, as I was used to in the US.
According to Kinzinger and Johnson the GOP is focused on jobs, manufacturing, economy, defense, rebuilding the military, border security, cyber security, and combatting Islamic terror. I thought their leadership said they were laser focused on tax cuts, repeal of the ACA, block granting Medicaid, turning Medicare into a discount coupon program, and dismantling the EPA, the CPB and every other government agency and program that protects the public at the expense of corporate profit. No wonder they can’t get anything (un)done.
