Discussion: Uber Banned From Germany In Court Decision

Discussion for article #227100

I have friends who use Uber in a American city, rationalizing it because the cab companies offer bad service and also screw their drivers. The entire industry in many places needs reform. Can’t speak for Germany though. But undercutting wages and safety regulations is a bad thing. Except in many places in America the wages for driving a taxi are already at starvation levels, while the drivers’ skills are often so poor that however safe the equipment, safety is not on offer.

If they want to offer taxi service, let them get the insurance and inspections required to carry passengers commercially. They could make a perfectly good profit doing that. But they want to be “disruptive”

I’ll comment from Germany… exactly - undercutting wages and safety regs (we luvs maintaining both). The Taxi Deutschland group had to jump thru the regulatory hurdles so let Uber do the same.

A fine up to €250,000 fine is possible with any pickup. That should stop it cold for now.
