This one will still lead to litigation, and possibly VRA sanctions. Think about trying to vote and being told that you could face a lengthy trial and jail time if some law-enforcement officer decides that you weren’t quite strenuous enough in your attempts to get one of a limited set of photo IDs.

If I had to guess, the re-spun law also strips away any monies allocated for letting the public know about the changes and giving poll workers updated training. This is TX after all.

And of course the new law still excludes student ID’s from being proof.

Texas Democrats are not happy with the stiff penalty, that included the possibility of jail time, imposed if it’s found someone lied in signing the affidavit.

If only those potential penalties applied to people who lied on their security clearance applications or forgot to file their income taxes or concealed ethics violations or any of a host of other offenses committed seemingly hourly by members of the (forrmerly) GOP.
