Discussion: Turkish PM Accuses Israel Of 'Barbarism That Surpasses Hitler'

Discussion for article #225281

Appealing to his base? doesn’t know Godwin’s law? Hmm. Is it an Israeli offensive or defensive?

I wouldn’t call it a “defensive”. That said, Erdogan’s comments make him look stupid. Turkey is on a downward trajectory with him in power.

Clearly needs to study up on Nazi barbarity.

As bad as Israeli state decisions have been and as abusive as the IDF has been, such a comparison is beyond odious.

Think of the money you could make if you started giving corporate/political private seminars in holocaust-referencing hyperbole avoidance. Demand is through the roof right now. You could charge whatever you want.

Kickstart it. I’ll kick in the first $1.

The man is correct. " there are none so blind as those that will not see."

Erdogan is radicalizing the electorate, an ill omen for Israel and Turkey’s future.

This is at the least a political maneuver. But there may be more to it as Erdogan has shown signs of virulent Anti-Semitism in the not distant past.

Since anti-semitism is a no no (and I agree); So when most pro-israel folks encounter any criticism of Israel scream anti-semitism, does that mean criticism of Israel is a no no? Erdogan called the actions of the state of of Israel as barbaric… I do not automatically equate that as being anti-semitic. Maybe the moderator can provide some links where Erdogan is actually criticising jews as a people and not the state of Israel. Because I think jumping to conclusion is dishonest. Also, BTW, did the moderator violate his own code: “Constructive criticism is welcome, but criticize ideas, not people.”

They’ve found the Israeli equivalent of Auschwitz, Sobibor, Bergen-Belsen and Buchenwald? They’ve found evidence of over 6 million killed and cremated?

Wow! You’ve been a member since November 13 and this is the topic that causes you to make your first post?

Hitler’s barbarity ended in 1945.

Israel is still active.

Offensive. What an a-hole. He’s on Ben Carson’s level.

Didn’t Turkey conduct genocide against Armenians, and unlike Germany, has never admitted it, let alone apologized or paid reparations?

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused Israel of “barbarism that surpasses Hitler” during its ground invasion of Gaza.

What was that, Mr.Erdogan?

Even I think he’s way overboard. Though at some point the Israeli Right will probably start considering the ovens. And I see the Israelis have figured out that we’ve figured out how reflexively pro Israel the American corporate media is…they’re making journos sign waivers absolving them of responsibility for death or injury. Now they can just kill journos who aren’t sufficiently pro Israel.

Erdogan is an ass. But this sort of reaction shows how utterly stupid Israel’s current war crimes are. No, it’s not as bad as Hitler. But the notion that “not as bad as Hitler” means “okay to do” is absurd. It’s like saying “I was sexually abused as an infant so it’s okay if I rape adults, since that’s not nearly as bad as what was done to me.”

Fundamentalism in any religion or ideology leads to atrocity. This is true of Christians, Muslims … yes, and Jews. Most atrocities are “not as bad as Hitler.” You have to look to actions like the Great Famine under Mao to find comparable levels of death dealt to innocents. Yet a large number of acts “not as bad as Hitler” are beyond the line of what any true civilization will tolerate. To the extent the US continues to tolerate and support an Israel which behaves like a spoiled child while terrorizing the brown people it continues to steal land and water from, we are barbarians.

Israel exists. Israel should exist. But its current government lacks humanity, and its actions are beyond the pale.

It would be helpful for you provide a list of journos killed specifically because they weren’t “pro Israel.”

Can’t wait for your glowing report on Hamas and its achievements in creating a modern infrastructure for an emerging Palestinian state that is a model for the Arab world. Or its sophisticated air raid warning system, eradication of refugee camps and campaign to end corruption. Oh, wait, it can’t do those things because it must destroy Israel first, a strategy that has achieved what in 70 years?

Stalin was no piker, either. Multi-millions of Ukrainians delberately starved to death during the early 1930s, and that is just one of his numerous atrocitys.
