From NYT today about Grimm.

“I’m overblown,” Michael Grimm, the former congressman and federal tax felon, told a crowd of more than 100 supporters on Saturday, though he seemed to be reaching for “overwhelmed."

Maybe he should left it at “overblown” because

On Staten Island — a patch of Trump Nation tacked onto a very blue city in the president’s very blue home state — the imitation requires little strain: Mr. Grimm, brash and swaggering since his first election to Congress in 2010, has been perfecting the routine for years. And Democrats are watching the contest especially closely, convinced that a Grimm nomination could put the seat in play in the fall and bolster their effort to flip the House.

Democrat running for the seat is Max Rose, veteran of the Afghanistan war.

If you meant the indictment, I agree, but the actually verdict was never jury - tried. He plead guilty.

From NYT today

The president refused to release his tax returns; Mr. Grimm is following suit despite having served seven months in a federal prison for tax fraud.

Somebody should have told Ms Kirkland Once a person has been convicted of a felony, he or she can be considered a felon for life, according to the strict meaning of the word.

Yeah, but he knows a guy.

Yes, Grimm pleaded guilty but also got a pretty good tongue lashing from the judge.

He asked for mercy from the court.

Leniency, it turned out, did not come easily.

“Your moral compass, Mr. Grimm, needs some reorientation,” Judge Pamela K. Chen said on Friday, before sentencing him to eight months in prison for tax fraud.

It’s a deficit reduction measure.
Look ma! No new taxes.
Couple old ones maybe, long past due …

Pretty sure it was for a non-felony, given the number of actual felonies he’d been charged with committing.

I live here in this district and I think this could be a “heavy lift” for either candidate, if the Dems could consolidate behind one of 6 running in the primary (which could be a problem in itself. A newcomer, Max Rose has somehow raised more money than the rest, and has the endorsement of Senator Gilbrand and the DCCC. Rose has pledged to “not be on the take”, but progressives here, including Bernie folk, are skeptical.), Donovan, if he wins, may have trouble getting Grimm’s base fired up. Grimm has virtually accused him of being a RINO in the campaign. Grimm’s heavy lift is, of course, what Giuliani says.

But “signs” are pointing to Grimm’s primary advantage. Giant blue Grimm signs bedecked with American flags have turned up all over the South Shore of Staten Island, even at businesses such as Greek diner style restaurants that risk losing customers (like me home they’ve already lost). Here’s one of them:

That one is in front of a big popular family restaurant on our main drag to our mall.

So we’ll see. Fun times here in NY-11.

Thanks for that. I have neuropathies in both hands, part of my disability, and I often miss a typo, and/or the left finger will hit before the right one, and I end up with oepn instead open, or a space where it doesn’t belong. When I do find them, I’ll come back a fix them, and then someone accuses me of editing my content, which I don’t do.

And this took 4 minutes to type as I fixed 7, sorry make that 8, I screwed up fixed, mistakes in two, albeit long, sentences.

he’s endorsing Grimm’s opponent in the GOP primary, Rep. Dan Donovan, and plans to hit the stump on Donovan’s behalf

If he does for Donovan what he did for Spankee, Grimm’s sure to win the primary. And if he jumps on Grimm’s bus, well, the sky’s the limit!

OF COURSE, they are all in for Grimm…a felon that threatens to throw reporters over the balcony in the House? WIN WIN.

Absolutely. Felony tax evasion? That’s a good thing in TrumpWorld. MAGA - the “G” stands for grift.

I only hope that he will, in due time, also share the “convicted” part with his idol…

He’s gonna get physical with someone sooner or later during the campaign. The unrepentant types are dangerous.

The article refers to Michel Grimm as an “ex-felon”.

I believe that’s incorrect. Someone who is convicted of a felony is always a felon, never an ex-felon. You don’t call the Manson clan ex-murderers or Sirhan Sirhan an ex-assassin.

I know. Putting together a comment from your iPhone it can be a bit tedious. The Strunk and White gets tossed aside.

Having become an obese, senile man, Giuliani avoids heavy lifts when at all possible.
