Discussion: Trump's 'Populist' Plan Is Nothing But A Giveaway To The Rich

Discussion for article #241158

A frontrunner for the Republican nomination announces a tax plan, which is immediately lauded as “populist” but is actually a massive and unpaid-for tax cut for corporations and the wealthy.

Why the surprise? Trump is attempting to sell the only product that his base is willing to purchase.

There is a much reality in Trump’s promises as in the average “reality TV” show.

What’s the point of giving the ultra wealthy more money, other than simply running up the score? There is zero economic benefit. Once the GOP has raided the country’s coffers for themselves and their rich enablers, what’s left? What’s the point of all that money if the road you drive your Lamborghini on is full of potholes, and the water where you ride in your yacht is polluted?

And its going to be nearly impossible to score his tax plan, as he purposely left so much of it vague. And of course, trying to pin him down on those vague specifics will be like trying to pin down water.

The early guessestiames I have seen are running about $2-3 trillion increase in deficits, with the lions share going to the top.

I wonder if there is a candidate who has a tax plan that gets the rich to pay more?

Well, just guessing, but probably any Democrat.

“In reality, cutting tax rates at the top saves wealthy people a bundle. But by emphasizing the closure of a few prominent loopholes, Bush and Trump may manage to turn public attention away from the real impact of their tax plans. So far, a fair amount of the media’s coverage has made that misdirection easier.”

The last paragraph highlights the problem. A lazy press.

Ultimately, the ultra wealthy don’t believe those issues will affect them. They believe that they can buy whatever they need and leave the rest for the poors. It really doesn’t occur to them that some of the most basic needs can’t be purchased privately.

Don’t believe me? Ask some of the ultra wealthy Chinese who are fleeing China for this country because if nothing else, our environment is cleaner.

What did folks expect? A Kennedy type tax cut from a billionaire president? Of course he’s going to take care of big money fat cats. To him that’s all the world is to him. That’s all he knows.

The sad part of this is if he did it millions of GOP’ers in the working and other fucked over classes would pump their fists in support.

All it does is drive up the price of Rare Wines, Renoir Paintings, and 100-ft Yachts.
They drive their Lamborghini’s on private race tracks at their Summer Home on 5000 acres in northern New York State accessed solely by one of their company helicopters and use the private airstrip there to board one of the private jets to fly to their Yacht which is berthed in Dubai.
They don’t USE any of the same infrastructure the unwashed-masses do so they don’t care.
It was once explained to me that the world and motivations of the Uber-Wealthy is just Junior-High-School with unlimited Money. Once you think of it that way, it all makes sense.

Unlike Jeb’s plan, however, Trump’s contains just enough vague promises to enable the fact checkers to deem it a half true or even true statement and the MSM asshats to reduce it to a “Democrats say, but Trump says” view from nowhere story.
