Discussion: Trump's Allies Pushing Him To Fight Back Against Mueller And Russia Probe

It’s what Republicans do.

The White House depicted in this piece sounds almost….rational. I’m not buying it.

Traitors for Trump urge the orange bastard to put party before country and subvert an investigation into cheating, lying and sabotage of our elections by a foreign government.

AND, both the Republican Congress and the reich-wing Supreme Court will almost certainly let him do it.

“Longtime friends and allies are pushing Trump to fight back, citing concerns that his lawyers are naive to the existential threat facing the president.
Trump supporters and associates inside and outside the White House see the conciliatory path as risky to the maverick president’s tenure. Instead, they want the street-fighting tweeter to criticize Mueller with abandon.”

Because his longtime friends and allies probably know (because he’s told them or they’re involved) all the things he did and knew about that Mueller will discover, if he hasn’t already. So attack the non-partisan Mueller and his team as politicized out-of-control persecutors. Go ahead, so-called president. Do it. And if the Republicans in Congress look the other way and allow it to go on, their complicity in the disaster of your presidency grows and gets cemented in the public’s mind.

band of Trump loyalists who yearn for a fight

Are we talking about the same coterie of clodhoppers who convinced Trump to fire Comey on AF1?

@rickjones The first red flag is the idea Trump has longtime friends, rather than users and enablers.

Are these the same allies who encouraged him to fire Comey, telling him the Democrats would be thrilled if he did? If he listens to them again, he truly is stupid as a bed post.

Trump has allies?

In terms of risk to tenure, being conciliatory toward Mueller pales in comparison to Trump’s stupidity and incompetence.

“The president and his team need to understand that this is a “political brawl” — not just a legal fight — and take that fight to Mueller, said the former campaign aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss private discussions with the president and his team”.

“political brawl” : Wrong

" legal fight" : Wrong - Not yet

Again, if that is a shared view, they just do not understand the nature of the beast. That is amazing. Mueller seems to be outside of political completely. Which really must be confusing the hell out of them. And as a legal fight, that has not been engaged yet.

Yet they all perceive that is what is happening. I think they are all doomed in the long run.

Honestly, I expect the Tangerine Tyrant to fire Mueller and then turn around and issue pardons for all his pals.

What will RepubliKKKlans do? Not a G-D thing…

…the existential threat facing the president.

The existential threat is the result of the actions of Trump and those with whom he’s surrounded himself. Yeah, go ahead and get all oppositional with the one entity that could actually bring you down, you fool.

Name-calling: always the best response to a federal investigation.

Yes! Please! Tweet every goddamned day about the Russia investigation. Keep the Trump administration’s collusion with Russia against free and democratic elections in America on the front page of every newspaper and on top of every webpage in this country. Just like the Weinstein sexual harassment story, which brings up Donald’s own years of past and current egregious treatment towards women. Have Donnie Jr. say some more laughable comments about that so we can keep showing the “pussy-grabbing” video on an endless loop. And the NFL protests, so we can show what a lying, authoritarian, racist prick both Trump and Pence are, especially after his morning Tweet about Jemele Hill. And Trump’s vindictive and incompetent response to the events in Puerto Rico.
Yes, Keep that Russia story on the front page, guys. And make sure Donald Tweets that every Republican in Congress who doesn’t support him against Mueller is a loser and a traitor. It gives the GOP something they really, really want to talk about.

I thought bribes were the best response to a federal investigation? Especially for those who consider using by any means necessary to get what they want.

I am sure ad hominem attacks on Mueller, who did serve his country during the Vietnam War while Trump deferred 4 times and then paid his Daddy’s MD for a bone spurs diagnosis, and who has served his country honorably in the DOJ and as director of the FBI, unlike Donald Trump, will solve all of the Administration’s mounting problems and just make them go away.

I think we have some taking what people say at face value going in this this article—fr’instance I don’t buy it that Trump et al. are “relieved” to have “structure,” which I took to mean Kelly. Trump does not go through life seeking structure. What does come through as meaningful is an effort by everyone in his world to tell him, in the only way he’ll listen, that he has a problem and he has to get serious about it. He’s not equipped intellectually or emotionally to do that without a lot of pushing, if his entire life is any guide.
