Iâm afraid those days are long gone. Hereâs my latest find in my area:
Jefferson County just south of St. Louis County was/is consider redneck paradise. I was reading a post about an attack on a 14 y/o A/A kid last month or so. The site was JeffCo411 (or something like that), anyhow the conversation devolved into neighborhood theft of guns from vehicles parked in driveways. One guy said he had his truck broken into three times and each time the thieves took his gun. Another poster asked why do you keep a loaded gun in your truck when you know thieves are breaking in vehicles looking for them. He answered âItâs my God Given Right to have a load gun wherever I want.â

Tell me about it. I came to a crossroads 20 years ago and gave up shooting in favor of fishing, in large part because people in the shooting subculture were wrapped so damn tight. (Also Iâd rather tie flies than clean guns yuck.) But intrinsically it remains a much more interesting and fun pastime than some folks realize. Itâs not the exclusive province of weirdo freaks and weirdo freakishness is not necessary to enjoy it.

Same assholes my whole life have been puffing and huffing about patriotism with there little flags on their chests(havenât seen those much more either} and their blowhard claims about family values, USA right or wrong. What sacks of shit. Everything I have felt about them my adult life and have taken many many verbal whippings over in family gatherings and the like, I was right. I wish I was wrong.
