Children of ambassadors and consular personnel born in the US are not awarded citizenship. American Indians were not considered citizens, even though they are born within the US, until 1924, in the Citizens act of 1924.
The original intent was NOT to give citizenship to anchor babies. And the SCOTUS review which will be the end-result of Trumpâs action, hopefully will restore the correct state - citizens are born to person who are âsubject to the jurisdiction thereofâ. In point of fact, writings of the author of the Amendment SPECIFICALLY excluded anchor babies.
Of course, the vast industry of âbirth tourismâ would be inconvenienced by a corrected reading of the 14th, but thatâs a good thing.
