Added to the facts that the GOP is itching to hand ATC over to private companies and to institute user fees for general aviation (think “You want to use ATC radar service to avoid other airplanes? That will be $10 please”), it makes for an unpleasant time to be a private pilot.
Interestingly, to the extent I can glean anything from Letters to the Editor of the flying magazines I subscribe to, it seems to me pilots lean strongly rightward. Probably a combination of their higher median income compared to the overall population and a large number of military and ex-military. Voting against their own self-interest.

The closing of these airports is security gone mad. Exactly how likely is it that some small airplane is going to launch an attack on the POTUS at his country club?
Large aircraft can be diverted around easily enough and the small one should be of little practical concern.
