Discussion: Trump Tweets Germany Owes 'Vast Sums Of Money To NATO'

rather get past the whole argument/discussion

So does everyone. We need to get back to the simple world where Trump is bad, Trump is always wrong, and everyone who is against Trump is, by definition, good. I find that really disturbing. I agree it may be effective to deny all nuance…but at what cost.

and when you find that political nuance of his, please holler back.

Wrong again. NATO, including Germany, made the 2% commitment in 2006. Not as a hard commitment, but as a commitment to work towards it. In 2006, German spending was 1.3% of GDP. In 2017 it will be 1.2% of GDP.

They’re taking you for a ride, and you can’t even see it.

See, this is a problem, as I see it. Just because Trump does it, doesn’t make it ok. There’s a meme circulating about how if we axe everything but military, what’s that military defending? This is similar. If we choose to become just like Trump because that’s a winning strategy, what are we fighting for?

I’m guessing that you missed this week, right?

Missed what, specifically?

currently mangling this song

nuttin important happened, nuttin at all.

Er, that sounds disturbingly alt-right…

Part of Trump’s evil is that he brings out the worst in people. It’s not just his supporters, though. He too often brings out the worst in those who oppose him as well. What I want for myself at least is to oppose Trump without becoming like him, or like his supporters. TPM crowd used to think like that too, but now I see group scapegoating of all of Iowa because of Steve King, for example. Willingness to close one’s eyes to oppression because it’s “our side” doing it…

You are aware that his budget got submitted right? The same budget that Tom Cole took a whack at, right?

Is that belief of yours grounded in any evidence?

Yep. Surely you weren’t surprised by it, right?

  1. Germany doesn’t owe a fucking dime to NATO. Or to America.

  2. NATO is not a protection racket.

  3. Donald J. trump yet again displays his absolute ignorance to the entire world.

Now the world knows what’s long been suspected; almost half of America, and the current regime are the dumbest most ignorant know-nothing motherfuckers on the planet.

Exactly right. I’ve noticed the same change. It’s become almost impossible to have a cogent and reasoned discussion on here (cf @inversion) . It’s become more and more like a liberal tea party or perhaps even birthed movement. Heavy on anger and conspiracy theories and hyperbole. Light on evidence and objective analysis. In other words, it’s reflecting the way much of the media is acting.

I’ve been advised by wiser men to leave you be, so please reciprocate
