Discussion: Trump: Trump Plaza, Trump Taj Mahal Too Awful to Bear My Name

Discussion for article #226072

Trump told the AP he has not considered whether to divest his remaining ownership stake in the company.
To put it another way: I am going to force the whole thing into bankruptcy. Screw over everybody and sue the crap out of everybody to raise as much capital as I can without using one dime of mine. Then I will buy it back really cheap out of bankruptcy, fix the whole place up with other peoples money and make some more millions. All I have to do is repaint my name on the buildings that I will now own free and clear. All profit will be mine mine mine. lol

W O W! Splendid analysis.

Most things “Trump” are structured like these casinos: he lends his name to developers of projects for cash and equity.

He is nothing but a brand.

“The Trump name … has become synonymous with the highest levels of quality, luxury, prestige and success.”

As soon as I read that I had a mental image of that SNL bit that Vanessa Bayer and Cecily Strong have done. You know, the models that aren’t porn stars anymore?

What a complete and utter buffoon. He is really the total package!

Good analysis, and quite possible. I do have one quibble…

I have doubts that Trump actually owns anything “free and clear”. It’s just not his style.

donald, as usual, has it exactly backwards. his name tarnishes everything it is associated with.

He doesn’t. He makes money selling the Trump brand to projects that other people are financing. And it is not unusual for these to be distressed projects. A classic case is the Trump National Bronx golf course…a new muni built on a waste dump costing NY taxpayers ~$250 million. Somehow, the Trump brand will magically rescue this financial disaster.
