This appeasement towards Trump is based on an historically false hope.
From Wiki on the good reverend. Clearly this is his African American
Burns is a Trump supporter who has appeared on news channels such as CNN, MSNBC, FOX News, Al Jazeera-America, BBC, CBS News, National Public Radio (NPR) to give interviews about his support for Trump. Burns has traveled extensively on the Trump campaign trail praying and introducing Trump
The term “due diligence” is not in Trump’s lexicon. Was this the best outreach to African Americans he could come up with?
This outreach is clever. It’s not to get him any support among black voters. It’s to give white people cover to defend Trump (“see he’s reaching out to the black community. he’s not a racist and neither am i”). Since it is clever, I’m going to assume it wasn’t Trump’s idea. Also, I believe it’s too little too late.
Just to clarify so no one trips you up, Palmer Woods is a neighborhood in Detroit – a wealthy neighborhood, where people like Aretha live – but it is a neighborhood, not an incorporated city or suburb.
Having said that, your point is well-taken – those pictures speak louder than words.
It would be the best thing ever if almost nobody showed up. Just by staying home that day each member of that church would have more of an impact than they will by leaving the house to vote in November.
Um not trying to be stupid, but what is a prayer tower? Is it like a minaret with a muezzin to call the faithful to prayer five times a day?
Will he give them PlayDoh too? I mean, they all live in abject poverty, so they will appreciate his largesse.
The people that live there, when asked where they live, undoubtedly reply “Palmer Woods”, hence my hint at exclusivity. I know people in Indianapolis. There is a well-to-do area north side of town, on a body of water, Geist Reservoir, with very pricey homes. If you asked a resident of the area where they lived it would pain their vocal chords to hear “Indianapolis” come from their mouth. They live in “Geist”. And you damn well better know there’s a difference. I’m sure Palmer Woods is the same situation. Every city of any size probably has a comparable situation.
I never thought that Dukakis shouldn’t have been in the military tank but the ill-fitting helmut and the price he paid in the stupid media for doing it will probably be parallel to Trump’s upcoming reluctant, fish-out-of-water, black church duf-a-thon.
I might be proven wrong seeing as his campaign is such a clusterf**k, but it wouldn’t surprise me if great efforts were put forward to make this at least appear a rousing success. Screened attendees. Swelling gospel music. Prayers said for Trump and the nation. All manner of theatrics. Limited press access, restricted follow-up coverage. I’m sure they don’t want to eff this up and realize the potential for doing just that needs addressed.
Yeah, worth saying. When I lived in the Detroit area in the late 90s, I would often take visitors from abroad who came to visit down Woodward Ave (which pretty much tended to fit their ideas of Detroit) and then turn into one of those neighborhoods. It was like Dorothy opening the door after landing in Oz. nobody could believe it.
Detroit has a legitimately bad rap on lots of stuff, but I must say I began to defend it against the totally negative viewpoint from outside, as there are pockets of wonder (Greektown, Eastern Market, etc) that make it a very multifaceted place. I kept rooting as it appeared to be slowly arising from the ashes, but this last round may have killed that off. Shame.
I heard they’re serving Koolaid in the church hall afterwards…
"I’ll have a “Jim Jones” on ice, hold the olive please.
Wow…he’s, of course, a nutjob. And Faux, of course, had a black man host the piece because their biased, racist, conservative propaganda is made ok by having a black man speak it.
" But I`ve been to their church , they are all going to vote for me " . /s
(Trump tells) black citizens they live in neighborhoods ravaged by crime and unemployment.
A myth that white communities are safer. Here are the states with the highest per capita (per 100,000) gun death rates (including suicides). Of the top twenty, the only blue state that makes the list is NM at #9.
#1 Alaska 19.8, #2 Louisiana 19.3, #3 Mississippi #17.8, #4 Alabama 17.6, #5 Arkansas #16.8, #6 (tie) Montana Wyoming 16.7, #8 Oklahoma 16.5, #9 New Mexico 15.5, #10 Tennessee 15.4, #11 South Carolina 15.2, #12 Missouri 14.4, #13 West Virginia 13.3, #14 (tie) Arizona Idaho 14.1, #16 Nevada 13.8, #17 Kentucky 13.7, #18 Indiana 13.0, #19 (tie) Georgia Utah 12.6 – National Center for Health Statistics 2013
If you leave out suicides, the most gun violent states are still mostly red ones by 2-1.
1 Louisiana 7.7, #2 Missouri 5.4, #3 Maryland 5.1, #4 South Carolina 4.5, #5 Delaware, Michigan 4.2 (tie), #6 Mississippi 4.0, #7 Georgia 3.8, #8 Arizona Pennsylvania 3.6 (tie), #10 Tennessee 3.5
I can see where living in Louisiana would cause a person to either shoot themselves or others.
