The only times he can drown out the inner voice telling him he’s stupid, he’s weak, he’s nothing, the only times he can feel at all good are when he’s persuaded another person he’s a larger than life heroic titan of a superman. When he’s criticized it’s torturous for him. Once he was able to use a certain segment of the press as a kind of megaphone and funhouse mirror. That’s all gone now. But he thinks if he can just persuade them all he’s as awesome as he thinks they should think he is, he could be finally happy. You just can’t overestimate how sick this person is.
