  1. That this horrible event is serving to feed Donald Trump’s already overinflated ego;
  2. That a significant portion of our electorate will be willing to put this man in any position of authority higher than dog catcher.

It’s not even secret. He is all but gloating. As if anyone needed a lot of foresight to predict another mass shooting in the U.S. Or as if people are less dead when the shooter is motivated by racism (Roof) or paranoia (Holmes, and the Umpqua shooter) or social isolation (Lanza, Loughner, and Rodger). I am having trouble keeping track. I once reminded my sister about a mass shooting in our hometown that she had forgotten – gosh, she said, “that was so many shootings ago.” What about the victims? What about them? Like 9/11, does a horrible terrorist incident mean you are now part of us after all? Don’t bet on it.

Yes, I think he does. But he also thinks that continuing with the exact same strategy that won him the nomination will win him the election. If it works once, it’ll work again. Plus, he loves it, it’s like crack for him. He can’t stop this because he’s addicted.

I predict Trump will get walloped in the general election and that his empire, built only on the fragile marketability of the name TRUMP will fall. The name TRUMP will be toxic – associated forever with racism, demagoguery, corruption, and narcissism. I hope he ends his days facing bankruptcy and foreclosures and that his progeny will come to feel ashamed of their family name.

Despite his relentless, blatant bigotry peddling, Trump isn’t polling any better with white voters than Mitt Romney had in 2012.

There’s still plenty of time until the election, and much will happen in these next few months, but it’s nice to know that sometimes there is some good news regarding this loathsome scumbag.
