Discussion: Trump Stirs The Nunes Memo Pot By Denying Democratic Rebuttal Release

If the shoe was on the other foot, and this was a Republican memo in response to some previous memo released by Democrats on the Intelligence Committee, you can bet your no-way-it-could-possibly-be-as-large-as-Trump’s sweet ass the memo would mysteriously end up in the hands of Sean Hannity and be breathlessly read on air, word for word, live on FoxNews.

I agree. They might just want to sit on this for awhile, although the Whataboutists in the MSM will use its existence as evidence that “both sides have played politics” with this.
On the other hand, I didn’t really expect that they would send it back for revisions. For one thing, based on the errors that they routinely release, I didn’t think the WH was familiar with proofreading, let alone revision. What I really expected was to have it released with redactions that looked as if they had given a 4-year -old child a Sharpie and told them to see how many words they could find with “e” in them.

They got tired of paying the mobile welder to come put the arms back on the ellipticals. Not to mention the constant stench of burning rubber from the treadmills.

nahhh - I’m okay with it. For the 4 minutes I’m there I can survive without seeing my favorite hawties at MSNBC if it means I don’t have to see the undead naz-ombies over at fox.

Nunes urged the minority to make the appropriate technical changes and redactions to delete all references to Russia, DT and established facts that contradict the Nunes memo so that their memo can be declassified as soon as possible. As used in this context, “as soon as possible” means the earlier of when DT actually reads all 10 pages or the second Tuesday of next week.

Cadet Bone Spurs really is a fearful, little coward, isn’t he?

Do better than this. PLEASE! Run for office!

Become a Precinct Committee Officer, sometimes it’s a Ward officer. Meet your neighbors and get out the vote. Find good citizens willing to run for office.

Run for School Board. Make sure Civics is being properly taught. Think a majority of America knows how government works? Just 26% of eligible voters in America voted for Trump and half of eligible voters stayed home last November. Today’s 10-year olds will be voting for President in 8 years.

Run for Mayor, City Council, County Commissioner, Borough Assembly. And get on your Planning Commission.

Run for State Legislature or Congress. The next census is in 2020, just over a year from now, when we redraw Congressional Districts. Trump is ALREADY trying to rig the census!

Register people to vote. In Washington State visit https://www.sos.wa.gov/_assets/elections/guide-to-registering-voters.pdf. If you need to help people overcome the GOP-led Voter run-around help them do that.

The time to start is now.

And get rid of GERRYMANDERING! Safe GOP seats gave us such intellectual giants as Louie Gohmert and Steve King. In most cases it’s the state Legislature that draws Congressional boundaries. Make it FAIR, OPEN and HONEST! We can do this!

Overturn Citizens United. Money is NOT speech and Corporations are NOT people- at least not until Texas executes one, and overturn any voter ID laws that are clearly an attempt to disenfranchise the poor and people of color.

Trump waited until the deadline before saying he wouldn’t release it, and released the GOP pack of lies within days. Does any smell a rat, is anyone surprised?

The top comment over at The Hill by Bobby:

f the Nunes memo were accurate or true, and the FISA warrant was based on the “fake” dossier alone, there wouldn’t be anything else about the FISA warrant to discuss

by denying the release of this memo and by admitting there is important classified information in this memo (concerning that FISA warrant) that can’t be released, the Trump admin is admitting there was more to the FISA warrant than just the dossier thereby debunking the Nunes memo

The theory is that they are whittling down the justice department and the FBI to the point where there the person overseeing Mueller will basically stop him from doing anything effective in his investigation - he is a special prosecutor, not an independent one. If, and probably when, that point comes where he is effectively stopped, it would be up to the congress to take some kind of political action to make sure the investigation continues. This congress has shown that it will not do that. FOX is busy squirting ink in the water as fast as they can to give all of the traitors something to hang their hats on as to why they are not and will not support Mueller anymore. It is a desperate strategy, but it is not one that is doomed to failure in the short run. The problem has always been that Mueller is not independent like, say, Kenneth Starr was. It is not chess or checkers, it is dodgeball, and at the moment, politically speaking, the Republicans have all of the balls.

This is like a fractured Truman Show. We can see everything he is doing, but he keeps going like no one is watching.

I heard on a podcast (might have been Preet Bahara’s interview with Sheldon Whitehouse or Rachel Maddow’s show earlier in the week) that it could be released on a majority House vote if Fat Donnie refused to release it.

Says Nunes:

Schiff pledged to seek the input of the Department of Justice and FBI regarding the memo’s public release, and it’s no surprise that these agencies recommended against publishing the memo without redactions."

Schiff did make that pledge. It was the responsible thing to do.

Nunes made no such pledge re his own memo, and, in fact, actively rejected “the input of the Department of Justice and FBI” — a fact that must have slipped his mind, else I’m sure he’d have mentioned it in this statement.
