There are a lot of people in the establishment who cannot fathom that Trump is a traitor. But he is. There is nothing he has pursued more aggressively than policies which align to Vladimir Putin’s interests. This isn’t even a debatable point. Everyone is in wait and see, pass the buck mode. They lack the will to do what it takes to defend the nation.
There’s probably a whole boxed set of videotapes featuring Don in compromising positions.
He’s going to build his “Wall” – of living flesh.
Never.
Why?
EEEEEE-Mailsssss!
I think that, unstable as it now is, there’s hope that someone (the American people) will rescue us from tRump. If the alliance is formally ruptured, putting it back together will be a huge, possibly impossible task.
More like latrine orderly.
If we show the same contempt for tRump’s supporters that he does, we’ll never get anywhere.
Bunch of out-of-work vets on the streets, with the economy tanked, and every last one of them (not having been exposed to years of false news brainwashing) really pissed at at Trumpublicans.
He really IS trying to destroy the Republican party.
So cut troops. See where that gets us. While you’re at it, roll around on the fucking floor wailing, kicking your legs and pumping your arms like the tantrum throwing toddler you are.
People need to stat calling his bluff on pretty much everything. Hand him the shovel with a smile and encourage him to dig while someone goes to grab the the rope and find a sturdy tree.
Point taken.
But if you have a good idea how they can be shocked/cajoled/educated out of their torpor…
This is the “cutting off your nose to spite their face” strategy.
We’ll need em for the war against ____. (Canada?)
Does anyone ever wonder why Putin has that smug grin on his face most of the time? Like the bully father watching his bully son wreak havoc on the playground.
OT but standby for reporting on Jim Jordan and failure to intervene in molestation of his wrestlers when he was coaching.
That didn’t go well for Joe Pa. and hoping Karma pays a visit to Mr. Jordan very soon.
Well:
Germany is not richer than the US, in any way. Not overall, not per capita. You are just plain wrong about that.
The violence in Europe did not stop two generations ago. In recent history there have been wars in Kosova and Bosnia, as well as Ukraine. NATO was heavily involved in bringing and sustaining peace in Kosova and Bosnia.
You also ignore the possibility that the US presence is one reason why there hasn’t been more violence in Europe.
And finally, NATO is a mutual arrangement. No American has died to protect Europe since NATO was founded, but many hundreds of Europeans have died to protect the US (or at least that’s how the Afghan war was justified; it was an attack on a NATO ally to which America’s NATO allies responded).
Truth be told, they’ve helped ensure an American way of life and that the larger wars be fought in the regions where brown people live.
Yeah, although, gotta tell you, most people’s reaction (both here and elsewhere in Europe) is “what the heck is wrong with you guys???” And, when I try to be optimistic that there will be no second term, half the time I get the reaction “yeah, right, you guys elected Dubya a second time — and soundly!” So, credibility here in our electoral system, at least at the presidential level is pretty damned low (they don’t get too much news about what’s happening below the national level…)
Plus, if you try to make the argument that the rule of law will save us, well, they DO get news here about SCOTUS. 'Nuff said.
Absolutely. We can only hope that, while he may damage it, he may not fully destroy it.
Only time Nato Section 5 was invoked was by the USA immediately after 9/11. We’ve always gotten our money’s worth out of NATO. Now if Trump simply wants to say, "shit we’re out of NATO because Vlad and I don’t like it ", fine. But to say that the allies aren’t paying enough is completely disingenuous. That’s not how NATO works.
I would support Trump in this if I had any confidence he would cut the defense budget. My guess is he won’t cut a damn thing in the defense budget.
Yep, the “pee tape” is a distraction. Follow the money.
