Discussion: Trump Sends Aides To Government-Funded Broadcaster Voice Of America

Nope. The coordination of all media can only happen under a dictator like a Hitler.

Trump wants to be a dictator, but he isn’t.

It remains an hysterical, inaccurate, and puerile analogy. Feels good to say, but a shallow analysis.

Dang, @austin_dave, you stole my video!

I found it early this morning on a German website, saved the address to wait for the appropriate place to insert it. Then I go for a coffee break, come back, and, oh, just poop.

ETA: the fact that I found this Dutch video on a German website just shows you how much the ENTIRE WORLD is laughing at the Orange Horror…

HItler wasn’t a dictator on day one. It was the process of coordination that made him one, not the other way around.

Sorry to steal your post! Post it again somewhere!

I get my early AM news from the Financial Times blog Alphaville. (So mine was also a foreign source). The Further Reading links are always good. You have to register but it’s free.

Yup. And trust me, I live in Germany. The similarities between the rise of power of both are not lost on the folks here.

And never wait to be appropriate! Just post randomly and expect others to make a connection between your post and the topic. That’s what I do. It looks either brilliant or absurd and you can always claim absurdity was your point. Relevance is way overrated.

Insidious day by day manipulation by the Conservative Entertainment Complex.
Remember when truth and facts used to have merit and people like Donald Trump were dismissed out of hand as fringe lunatics .
Remember when something like an affair or the picture of you with a woman who was not your wife would derail a candidate
Remember when a racial slur like Macaca would derail a candidate.
I could go on but you know what I’m saying
Post truth indeed

Der Kommissar’s in town uh-oh-oh…

For a variety of reasons, the media have lost their moorings, so you don’t need to smash the opposition presses if you can intimidate them. I think there is a limit, though, and we may be hitting it now or soon. The NYT is using the word “lie” in headlines now. Our institutions are stronger than those of Weimar Germany, but we need to actively bolster them.

There has ALWAYS been a Ministry of Information. Since about, oh, 3500 BC.

Here’s a little tidbit from the little Austrian fellow’s Kellyanne Conway:

"If you tell a big lie and repeat it often enough, then, at the end, the People will believe it. You can maintain the lie as long as the State is able to hide the political, economic and military consequences of the lie from the People. Therefore, it is of vital importance for the State to use its complete power to repress dissenting opinions. The truth is the archenemy of the lie and therefore the truth is the greatest enemy of the State."

Don’t know about you, but it sure sounds like what is going on right now.

Except, instead of shouts of “sieg heil” in the background, we have the laughter track (see: CIA meeting).

I shouldn’t reply, but good lord, it’s not binary. Talk about shallow analysis.

There’s was an interview I encountered the other day (I think on Slate’s Trumpcast) where the point was made that there has to be some “free” press, because Trump/his circle want to have an eye on what is really happening even while they are dissimilating train-car loads of bullshit. That’s Putin’s model, and I think by most standards he’s a dictator, whether or not you think so.

Brutal “humor” was a tool then too.

Trump will soon be spreading “alternative facts” with every media outlet he and his puppet master Putin control. Welcome to the dystopia.

You don’t know history.

January 30, 1933 . Hitler appointed leader of Germany

The first concentration camp was Dachau, established on March 20, 1933

Don’t tell us he wasn’t a dictator from the beginning.

Heh. And it works even better in the weekend mega-threads.

In a free country, information about citizens is protected by law. Information about the government is open to the public.

In a police state, information about the government is secret and he citizen’s lives are open books.

Such total information inversion is necessary to facilitate the crimes of government and to prevent those crimes from becoming public knowledge

As summed up by Al Gore
"By closely guarding information about their own behavior, they are dismantling a fundamental element of our system of checks and balances. Because so long as the government’s actions are secret, they cannot be held accountable. A government for the people and by the people must be transparent to the people. "
