Honestly it’s perfectly plausible there was no tip-off but I see motive, means and opportunity. And it’s not even much of a leak. You call your source at the bureau, someone you’ve done favors for and have a relationship with, and ask if an arrest is happening. “Anything’s possible,” the source says. “Well, I tried,” you say. And there’s your confirmation. Or something like that. Washington is a leaky town.

Well, considering that even Stone knew what was coming months ago, it’s not exactly hard to believe a scenario in which CNN just had a rotating group of people on 24/7 stakeout outside of his home. Looks like it paid off!

Unfortunately, Trump’s base is going to run this into the ground as some great conspiracy and we’ll never hear the end of it.

This is the perfect storm. Many people will conflate Trump’s shenanigans re the shutdown with this Roger Stone mess. They know the shutdown is bad and that it doesn’t matter what Trump says, he’s to blame. So, it doesn’t matter what Trump says about Stone. All of a piece, careening downhill.
