It’s been a very illuminating couple of weeks. The main thing we’ve learned is how contingent our institutions are on good faith, and how quickly they collapse when a bad-faith party like the GOP has power. The House oversight function is the latest check and balance to implode. It may well be that we’ll see Trump’s tax returns and the full Mueller report–and our electeds should certainly not give up on that front, but it could easily take more than a year for our institutions to grind through their broken gears, by which point we’d be insane not to be focusing on the elections.
There is in fact every reason to start focusing our energies on winning 2020 now. That means setting up ground operations and stoking partisan determination in the five swing states right now. The primary contest is essentially a media jamboree. The only thing Dem grassroots should be focused on is locking up the base and ensuring a massive turnout in November next year irrespective of whichever candidate wins and how the economy fares and whether it’s raining on election day or not. Just lock this thing up with nonstop organizing in Milwaukee, Detroit, Philly. Everything hinges on waking the sleepy blue giant in those cities.

While it may be true that Trump has been audited…I know this is being mean…but let’s be real. An audit doesn’t usually take an entire year. And even less likely several years…
So there are likely several years worth of Trump tax returns that are not presently under audit that we would like to see.
Not to mention, this audit excuse is a sham to begin with! Nixon released his taxes when they were under audit at the time…
It’s like everything else in Trump World…from taxes to the Mueller report…what the hell are they trying to hide?
If it would exonerate Trump, he would be publishing them on the first page of the New York Times and Fox would be close behind…

It could well be the release and subsequent criminal revelations in both, in the midst of the election, still would not prevent Trump’s reelection. Then where are we? Trump is in office for a second term, it’s been indisputedly proven he’s a criminal guilty of many crimes, and no one will either indict and try him, nor impeach him. It’s going to be like having the cops send a wife-beating pedophile back into the home with his spouse and kids, saying nothing to see here, move along.

What’s going to prevent reelection is the lack of support from many of those who voted for him the first time, consistently low disapproval rating, very small base even if they’re loud.

Nearly every prognosticator, with reams of poll data and sophisticated trend and opinion studies at their fingertips, pegged Hillary as the very likely winner in 2016. 538 and the Cook Report had her in a near Electoral College landslide the night before the election. I really don’t think it’s possible to look at approval ratings and other voter criteria, regardless what they purport to reflect, and predict the 2020 election.

Dark laughter of assent over here. But the thing to never lose sight of is how easily we can win this election IF Dems focus on the key electorates starting now. Not leave it to a last-minute, chancy three months in November. We have the voters out there who will turn out if organized and primed. We could have this thing locked up, on the ground, before the Democratic convention. The key is to get our base stoked on purely partisan, hatred-of-Trump terms, so that it doesn’t matter who our candidate is and how we feel about that candidate’s agenda, sexuality, race, gender, etc. Just get a massive and vengeful anti-Trump electorate primed and ready to check the blue line.

He could say that he can’t give his tax returns because he ate a taco today, it would matter just as much as if he is under audit or not.

of course he is lying, he always is. but once again, whether he is or not doesn’t even matter in this case.

We don’t need a doctors note to see if he has bone spurs or not, as it doesn’t matter regarding to releasing his tax returns.
We will see who cares come Nov 2020 if you make it that far.
Right now I give you 50/50 on you being around by then.
