It does happen—I wrote a profile of a ferry captain years ago who was highly regarded and he’d had a collision once. But twice in a short time with Navy warships, that’s not normal. They should be the best navigators and ship handlers in the world.

Seem like I read something about the other recent accident being a strange command by the head honcho of the ship demanding a sudden turn. If true that would seem to imply the issue is a guy that over rode the software and electronics.
All he heard was John McCain and all that came to his tiny mind was, fuck John McCain!

The barker’s gonna be on the telly tonight barking about how he knows what to do in Afghanistan. I was in Kabul in 1970 and a lot of other places in that country…I was shown walls built by Alexander the Great…and told the country was “the graveyard of empires.”
As for the USS John McCain, there needs to be a serious investigation of the command structure of that boat and we need to find out how the collision occurred.
