I look forward to the day when the U.S. uses its military to guard our shores, lest Britain invade again.
In the meantime, I guess we’re going to have to settle for trying to become Soviet Union 2.0.

The authoritarian to totalitarian shitholes of one ideological stripe or another than like to have big military parades have to build special parade route roads because, turns out, tanks and other heavy military equipment turn roads designed for nothing heavier than an 18 wheeler into rubble. All of the streets that the tanks and rocket launchers and stuff take for the Red Square May Day parade route are built that way. Yet another piece of reality Trump will likely stupidly ignore.
And, of course, the Russian units that do the parading basically only do that. They are the most militarily worthless unit on earth, but they do know how to keep boots shiny and tanks looking painted and pretty even if prettying them up effectively demilitarizes them.
Granted, the U.S. has a unit like that as well, the Third Infantry Regiment, the Old Guard, based in D.C. and charged with conducting military funerals in Arlington and providing honor guards. Spit and polish and 18th century drill. It’s only a short regiment of infantry, however. No tanks, no militarized transport. And the Army, does make a serious effort to keep it from ossifying into a mere drill team. Trump will probably try to outfit them in gold lame and polished jackboots.

Of all the shots fired at Trump by comedians, Noah’s was the best observed. This is exactly how Trump sees himself. Except that Idi Amin didn’t hold his tie together with Scotch tape.
