Please proceed.

Then the next President can declare a national emergency and lock you up, yes??

“Hello, Ambulance People? I’ll likely, no, DEFINITELY, need an ambulance sometime soon.”

I chuckle every time Donnie prefaces his intentions with “Definitely.”

This is the only way out for Trump. Dems are not going to budge especially with Trump on record saying he would own this shutdown. I wish Trump would just do it so these Fed workers can get back to making a living. Even with the national emergency declaration this Wall will never be built. Trump will be sued and if what I read on Wash Post is true. Trump will get the $ for the Wall from other budgeted projects from the Defense Dept. However Trumps still needs congressional authority to use the $ to build a Wall. Add in the lawsuit and the Wall will never be built. But it is Trumps exit path to end this absurd shutdown.

So “I can’t get my way” constitutes a national emergency.

I suspect the courts will disagree

If it was someone with competence in the Oval Office with the same authoritarian bent I would be terrified as the Presidency has many powers that have not been tested/challenged…

Even so, this could get really really ugly…

He’s doing his absolute damnedest to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that there does not exist an emergency in any form. Were he a posable doll, we could not put him in a less defensible posture if we tried. The OLC must be drinking itself to death.

Do I have this straight: he calls for a “national emergency”, he reallocates some money from other DoD projects, Congress still don’t be able to actually allocate it, it gets contested in the courts upon which, he loses. Wall does not get built.

Does the government get reopened in the meantime?

When he “does” this, and it goes through 10 different courts, who will be paying the lawyers’ fees? And on that topic, WaPo has a story about his new “army” of 40 lawyers who are ready and waiting for those House subpoenas. Who’s paying for them?

In fact, the US has been in a perpetual state of declared national emergency for four decades, and the country is currently under 31 concurrent states of emergency about a spectrum of international issues around the globe, according to a CNN review of documents from the Congressional Research Service and the Federal Register.

This is what you get when you vest the awesome powers of the Presidency in the small hands of an even smaller man. With great power comes great responsibility is something Trump never heard or comprehended.

PS: when do we get the climate change national emergency?

This is hardly a surprise. Drumpf declaring that he will definitely do the unpopular, unnecessary and almost certainly illegal thing so the sake of his fragile ego has basically been his modus operandi for his entire life.
I want wall - fuck you all is the kind of pointless primitive retrograde asinine move we have all come to expect. Do it President Shitgibbon, the Courts will block you faster than the KFC grease in your arteries.

I think so in that calling a “national emergency” will allow him to claim some sort of “victory” thus allowing the government to reopen. Subsequently, he’ll blame the Courts when it gets struck down and no Wall is forthcoming.

Headline: " …Says He Will ‘Definitely’…"
First paragraph : “… secure funding for his border wall and will “definitely” use that option …”

Actual fucking quote: " …I would almost say definitely… "

WTF?

Keep it up, son. If you think the delay in Congress funding will take a long time, wait’ll you have to deal with the court system.

You’re in over your head.

“I’m the best compromiser. Compromise is my middle name. It’s in my blood. Many people have said that. And if they won’t compromise with me and give me what I want, I’ll compromise back ten times harder. The other day a bunch of big tough steel workers came up to me the other day crying. The told me:‘Sir, you’re the best compromiser.’”

“And by the way Trudeau. That guy in BC that asked you to push me off a cliff. You told him you appreciated the comment. Well, let me tell you, Trudy, you’re too weak to do it, weak. No way you sit next to Ivanka in future. No way.”
