Discussion: Trump Says He Doesn't Need Daily Intelligence Briefings: I'm 'Smart'

I anticipate four years of the media carrying his water, fetching his bag, backing up his slurs. He’s President now, dammit: that means the media won’t undermine him.

Eight years? I’m placing my money on eight months.

I tried several times to start a comment, and then realized I have to fall back on my same old reaction:

“Words fail me…”

ETA: Truly intelligent people have a realistic idea of the limits of their knowledge. This statement by Trump reveals his total ignorance.

(The words always come later…I am always gobsmacked by the depth of idiocy of this man…)

Only a genuine mental case would claim he doesn’t need intelligence briefings because he’s “smart.” Imagine how that will play if we have a major terrorist attack in the U.S., the risk of which he was too “smart” to be briefed about.

We have a narcissistic sociopath as President-elect.

Translation: I’m doing something really stupid because I’m smart.

In Practice: I heat my tea by lighting my pants on fire because I’m smart.

I know that our country has never had a military coup before, and given the political leanings of said brass, we probably wouldn’t like it…but the alternative is pretty clearly WE ALL DIE isn’t it?

This would be hilarious if it weren’t really happening.

Someone should set a debate between a Ph.D climate scientist and the smartest guy in the world—sandbag him.
Heck, Trump could figure out dark matter and string theory, if he put his mind to it.

If Putin did indeed collude with Trump, which I do believe, Putin no doubt will blackmail Trump with threats of exposure of that collusion. You have to know Putin would do that. Not a good situation to have a ruthless, cunning bastard like Putin pulling the strings of an egotist American president from Moscow. I hope if it becomes clear that if Trump’s actions are mostly serving to make Russia great again, the GOP will act and impeach him before he does too much harm. Knowing the GOP, I am not entirely convinced they’d do the right thing and put their country first. I’ve listened to too much Putin Envy from the Republicans since Obama was elected.

Other countries are cornering the renewable energy markets.

You don’t have to believe in climate change to manufacture products for those who do.

In hindsight, do these quotes from Trump in 2011 regarding his birtherism sound very smart?

“I have people that have been studying it and they cannot believe what they’re finding,”
“He spent $2 million in legal fees trying on to get away from this issue, and if it weren’t an issue, why wouldn’t he just solve it?”
“I wish he would because if he doesn’t, it’s one of the greatest scams in the history of politics and in the history, period. You are not allowed to be a president if you’re not born in this country. Right now, I have real doubts.”

I went to a high-class trade school in Cambridge (MA) and knew some really smart people; not one of them declared that they were “like, smart.” But they were, and he’s not. End of story.

“You know, I’m, like, a smart person. I don’t have to be told the same thing in the same words every single day for the next eight years.”

I seriously doubt that the intelligence services were telling him the same thing every day. They are starting from scratch, with briefings on many countries, issues, hot-spots, and potential problems all over the globe. If going alphabetically, he probably lost focus and put an end to the briefings at about “c” or “d.” Perhaps, contrary to him being, like, smart, he only recognized the same words every day, but had absolutely no idea what he was being told. It’s good that Pence and Trump’s “generals” (cabinet and national security picks?) are getting the briefings and reading the PDB, but let’s just hope Trump isn’t the one making final decisions based on no knowledge or background.

This is rich coming from a man who criticized President Obama for missing intelligence briefings. Now you wouldn’t know that from this piece because unfiltered coverage of Trump is still the SOP here.

China agrees. Party paper calls him “as ignorant as a child.”

Yes, they do know. They’ve known for a long time. It’s happening, and going to get worse. And if you understood it you’d know that sitting around being wishy washy about it and using as a partisan wedge issue is going to lead to an even bigger catastrophe than it already will. Jesus.

Just imagine the next "Bin ladin Determined to attack in US " memo he will miss.
He won’t even have the opportunity to say "you’ve covered your ass "
He will be the one talking gibberish at the congressional investigation because he was so smart he missed it.
Government by willful ignorance…
As above
Words fails me

what is ironic is that he really isn’t very smart. All his education was paid for by daddy and everything else after that was bought by his millions and if people didn’t like it, he sued until they gave in. He’s going to realize very soon that he can’t do this job. He’s too lazy and too dumb to even know that yet.
