Discussion for article #239322
Oh, god (if you exist), please send the BLM people to Asshole’s next appearance. I would love to see DT whimpering after being sucker punched by a hefty protester.
Of course the real issue to racist Trump is that the protestors were black. Considering his racist actions regarding President Obama it is no wonder that he would seek any opportunity to sound like he would put black protesters in their place.
One case where I agree with Trump. You can’t let your event get hijacked. The whole thing was so cringe-worthy. How they tried to “negotiate” with the protesters (“It’s not your event so you can’t talk,” then “OK, you can talk, but only after Sanders”) before just giving up the stage (“Ok, you can talk now, but how long do you think you’re going to be?”). Seeing Sanders moping around in the back while they called his supporters racists and white supremacists was hard to watch. It played into the stereotype of the spineless liberal in the worst way.
Someone there needed to say “Get off the stage,” and backed that up with some kind of security. I certainly can’t see something like this happening to Clinton.
It would be other people doing the fighting.
It wasn’t “his” event. He was invited to speak at the Social security rally. The event organizers should have had better control.
You note this wouldn’t happen to Clinton, I agree. Low risk, pre-screened audiences are unlikely to be able to interupt. Of course low risk is low reward.
I will say Trump knows weakness though. He doesn’t have the stones to do real interviews, he literally is phoning it in…
Funny, very little Bernie news here at Trump Points Memo. Unless is is an attack on Bernie.
Happy to note the BLM interuption. Happy to note a Trump attack on him. (mmmmm… Trump)
Huge crowds drawn in Portland…crickets.
Bernie’s Lead in the poll in NH that came out this morning? …let’s see.
I’m sure we won’t see any news about Hillary turning over her server to the Justice Dept.
If neither of these show up on TPM today, the bias is clear…
Actually, it just did. But BLM got there too late and couldn’t get past the Secret Service Agents. She invited them to talk to her after. They weren’t entirely happy with her answers, but she made the effort.
Ever the diplomat.
I agree with Trump on this one. I think the Sanders campaign handled that mess very poorly. Allowing yourself to be hijacked without a fight isn’t exactly “presidential”. I see it this way. The plight of BLM is respect. They want respect, which I agree they don’t get because of race, but I think if that’s what you want being disrespectful to those want respect from a loser.
That mess has been analyzed all over the place and the consensus is: BLM acted like jerks. I would’ve been impressed had Sanders said “hold on…this is my campaign and I’ll do it my way.I will not hijack your campaign and force you to do it my way so don’t you do that to me. Your assertion that I don’t care about BLM is crap…and I am angered by it”. But he chose a method that makes him look like a loser and BLM chose a tactic that pissed off a bunch of their supporters…like me.
I guarantee you BLM does not pull this stunt on Trump. The man, fool that he is, has a point.
Sounds to me that Sanders is a gentleman and Trump is a bully.
Black lives do matter…but if they keep this shit up BLM won’t.
Typical, liberals cutting the feet out from under liberals. BLM must do a Trump event, a challenge has been given. Let’s see that Trump deal-making style play our real time…
I’ve never really understood the point of protesting a man who, in his life, marched in the March on Washington, was a student coordinator for one of the Civil Rights groups, opposes the militarization of the police, opposes the prison-industrial complex, and has done more for Civil Rights than some of these protesters.
I’d say he’s done more for Civil Rights than 99% of the protesters.
Trump (translated): those people don’t have the stones to mess with me, because I’m no P***y like Bernie Sanders.
Simple, the protesters are very young and have no memory past Ferguson, let alone anything from the civil rights era.
Nah…Trump is just rude and crude.
Sanders’ response is actually a very good response.
The problem is that I’ve run into this with the LGBT Community too. Protest the ally and gain what exactly? I’ve found too many people who have this narrow view of who to go after. It’s why I get frustrated with the Left sometimes.
Well, all things considered, Bernie is 1] a relatively “soft” target and 2] the events were indeed run by others where he was invited to speak 3] He’s a gentleman and the events were run by “progressive” organizations who were almost certain to let folks speak; GOPers would call security, if demonstrators were even able to get past security 4] Why Bernie, specifically. You don’t get as much attention to the cause by interrupting obscure State Assemblyman, Jubilation T. Cornpone.
Bottom line, I don’t think it’s about Bernie, it’s about delivering a message critical to BLM’s purpose.
Does this strategy work in the long run? I have no idea. It’s just part of the process, but I can understand your point.
Trump would have hurled his feces at the protestors.
I understand your point as well. The problem is that I have found that protesting allies tends to put a lot of allies off and not want them to continue to support at least the group doing the protesting. I saw it several times within the LGBT Community.
It was noted on MSNBC that these protests against Sanders specifically earned a lot of anger from people within the crowd. In an interview with a state senator, the woman said something about “How can you call yourself a Progressive if you don’t address these issues.” She seemed uninformed as to how much Sanders has done to help the Civil Rights cause.
The best thing would be to let Sanders speak, and talk to the campaign about pushing the Civil Rights message more. Sanders would be more than willing to do so, and it would accomplish the mission of spreading the message.
Unfortunately, I’ve come to believe that a lot of activists believe that the only way to affect change is to protest. They never learned the amount of back room deals that went into the Civil Rights Acts, some of which predate the Movement getting any real steam behind it.
