Actually I am old enough to remember George Wallace and felt a great deal of guilty pleasure when (at the age of 14) I heard about the assassination attempt that left him paralyzed. Perhaps I wasn’t clear, but my reference was to more recent standards of speech and behavior
You must be trying very hard not to see that white males have become an endangered species in America. I think they are down to about 80% of the of Fortune 500 CEO spots. Oh, the humanity!
The GOP establishment is doing nothing to halt this tragedy. Why just a few days ago, the House GOP decided to issue a subpoena to compel the white male CEO of a small company to testify before Congress – as if he were some common criminal. This is a man who took a ho-hum product and, with hard work and innovation, turned it into an earnings powerhouse. We should be teaching children about this Martin, not MLK Jr.
The mistake is thinking it was an accident he, or whoever is in control, retweeted a racist’s twitter.
I figured as much. My point is many today seem to think we’ve crossed some line of civility and gone off the deep end in political rhetoric. We’d do well to remember racists, homophobes and xenophobes have a rich history in this nation, and doing battle with them isn’t a new phenomenon. Ted Cruz would like to bar the church doors to gays attempting to marry, just as Wallace did trying to keep blacks out of public schools.
Reince Priebus: Future of republican party is bright and white, just as I planned.
Though I gave props to this, his embracing these folks will not help in regards to any type of rehabilitation. After awhile, folks can’t strike these images from their head.
oh he wants to win this.
he sees his competitors now as just road bumps.
I’m surprised trump hasn’t passed out brown shirt uniforms to his supporters.
I too have never believed Trumpet wants to be president or rather wants to do the work of being a president which if done conscientiously will turn one’s hair gray, e.g. Obama. He likes the demagoguing part, the adoring crowds worshiping him, more attention than he’ll ever have at any other time, and how he gets out of getting close to it is the question.
I remember Wallace as well, and what you experienced at the news of his assassination attempt and likely a lot of other people too who would never own up to it is schadenfreude, joy from harm. No one wishes others harm, but if happens that’s another story.
I dunno. Meth takes a while to destroy you. I’d say angel dust.
Can I choose a week handcuffed to Miss Vickie’s massage table?
No one? When Reagan was shot, I very much hoped he would die. I am not in the least ashamed of it.
I have to admit I love watching the toxic rightwing mojo finally turn on itself.
Reagan, okay, but how about the hapless Ford getting shot at twice, did you wish for a different outcome?
A guy I worked with was absolutely giddy when Reagan was shot. He danced around all night joyfully singing, “Ding Dong, the Wicked Witch is DEAD!” It didn’t work out for him but he sure kept a positive attitude.
The sign should say DUMP TRUMP.
bigotry is all the rage these days – I feel old-fashioned.
Sounds to me as if you’re undermining one of our best arguments against incivility by denying that we ever culturally moved beyond it. I don’t think you support Trump’s contention that this all just annoying political correctness that stifles human discourse, but that’s kind of how it sounds. I’m really not sure what your point is, but if asserting that we never did cross any line of civility is part of it then that makes it a lot harder for us to argue we need to cross it back in the other direction. If you’re just dispensing history lessons, well, thanks but I don’t need one one of those.
“It’s Okay – you don’t need to tell jokes because you are one… JEBORAH”
FSM, they nailed him…
