I am on the verge of tears. These kids want to have a discussion on how to make their lives safer, and Trump suggests surrounding them with more guns?
And what about the staff that is being armed? Their job description now becomes “Serving lunch, and defending the school against armed intrusion”? How do they get trained? What kind of protective gear will they be issued and required to wear on a daily basis? And what if, in the execution of their duties, they screw up and kill a child? Who takes care of them in their anguish?
We can’t talk about banning weapons of war, or better background checks, or a national insurance policy paid for by gun owners. No, that’s all impossible, would never work, wouldn’t save any lives. But turning a school into a fortress guarded by janitors and lunch workers? That will solve your problem.
Once again, the GOP parrots its owner’s talking point that the solution to gun violence is more guns. Seriously the GOP and its “Leader” Don the Con are nothing other than NRA puppets.
Well, after all, this is all about him. Everything is about him. People who say it isn’t all about him are being very, very, very unfair to him. Disgusting.
Two things. First, what the fuck is he talking about? I’m asking that literally. He says that you can’t have 100 armed security guards and then goes on to talk about all the armed ex-marines, etc. who’d have guns? Is he imagining that every school is taught by ex-military? Or did he just lose track of what he was saying 2 minutes earlier about not having armed guards?
Second I have a theory why he said this. He was keeping quiet until the angry parent spoke up about being pissed. Trump was worried that all the media focus was going to be on that parent so he had to come up with something outrageous–and nonsensical–to bring the attention back to him. This is how he operates.
Sure, but also all the guards and police officers in that photo are trained in the use of lethal force. Teachers are trained in teaching. Many I’m sure know how to use a gun. Some are vets. Some have had previous careers of all kinds, but all of them are there to teach. If they wanted to be police officers, they’d be doing it already.
I agree. Tasking teachers, the vast majority of whom lack military and/or law enforcement training, to carry firearms and to respond efficiently to deadly threats is wildly irresponsible.
