That is, in a perverse way, the beauty of Trump. His narcissism is so hard-wired that you don’t have to try to predict what he will do, you don’t have to hope you can provoke him … if you’re good at it, you can literally program him.

My fear is this:
The Putin-Trump plan could be to work jointly to destroy ISIS. They would use massive bombing by the US and Russia, plus drone strikes, plus fighting on the ground by a heavily resupplied Syrian army. Civilian casualties would be massive. The actual impact on ISIS, and the subsequent blowback, is uncertain (but the history of the region suggests that the political-religious-terrorist space created by ISIS will not vanish).
The campaign makes Trump a hero, strengthens the nationalist groups in Europe, greatly boosts admiration for Putin in Western Europe and in the US, allows Russia to expand its footprint in the Middle East, allows Putin to become a highly trusted source of advice for Trump, and gawd knows what else.
This is my fear, not a prediction – much like a Trump victory in the election.

Is it too much to ask that Trump exercise a little self-control and not tweet about everything?
In this case, it’s quite possible that Putin is using this opportunity to back down from an escalation of the confrontation with the U.S. and is accepting the punitive actions taken by Obama. He may be doing this because he realizes that enhanced sanctions will hurt Russia economically and he has no real counterpunch for that. In any event, if this is what’s going on, the smart thing for Trump to have done here is to let this alone–be silent, take his briefing next week (which he should have taken weeks ago) and then issue a statement saying he’s convinced that the U.S. intelligence conclusions here are well-founded and we need to take steps to make sure that future elections can’t be interfered with. Period, end of story.

What a sad, sad man. He’s so dependent on praise from anyone - literally anyone - that he can’t function on even the simplest terms. A five-year-old would know to keep his mouth shut and wait until January 20th, but not PEOTUS. I think he’ll withdraw all of the executive sanctions on Russia as his first act.
@krux Somebody mentioned the possibility of Obama slapping handcuffs on Trump the moment his hand touches the bible. Not a bad image.

My guess is that John McCain and company will eventually cave or be ready to fly the coop if the alt-right turns the heat up on them.
