Trump makes his money selling his name…his brand. And he has succeeded in damaging that brand all by himself. And then doubling down and digging deeper. He’s shown us his inner self and it ain’t all that purty so to speak in ruubish.
Not quite. He represents the Id of a declining minority of Americans of which at least 50% of Iowans seem to reflect.

LOL at the Iowans supporting a candidate who really, really means it, really, when he says he would seal off the border with Mexico.
I guess they are all eager to start working dangerous jobs in meat-processing plants for not much more pay than they could get in retail.
Steve King wins his races easily with anti-immigrant rhetoric that sounds like it inspired Trump’s, so not a big surprise that Trump is polling well in Iowa. It also should be no surprise if Trump’s message is rejected by US voters overall just as King’s is.

All true, but his extreme narcissism coupled with the fact that his brand is cratering is precisely why he can’t quit. His only hope for salvaging his brand is to become a beloved hero to the Republican base, and the only way to do that is to stay in the race and continue embarrassing the GOP. Dropping out would only serve to hasten his descent into obscurity, and that’s the one and only thing Trump wants to avoid.

He’ll run around yelling about how everyone is WEAK!! and how he’s a VICTIM!! for the next several months until even GOP voters figure out that he’s crazy.
By that time the entire field will be good and poisoned by his nonsense. If you’ll excuse me, I must go stock up on popcorn.

The problem is that Trump is a perfect fit for the tea party contingent that dominates the GOP so it’s ever so remotely possible that he could enough delegates to win the nomination. In the general, he would lose by a historic landslide in the popular vote and at least as badly as McCain in 2008 in the electoral college, but how many, if any, McCain states do you think the dems might pick up? And would even Trump be enough to tip the House back to the dems?

Every time I get a polling call I tel them Trump is my favorite. And yes I get a lot of polling calls. Which goes to ask, if I am doing this, how many other people might be doing this too?

I live in NH, and already I get about two calls a day from pollsters. I like to screw with them once in a while and say things like this.

No, this is a Quinnipiac poll, not the Iowa Straw Poll. This one could actually hold some significance.
I fill out lots of stuff, like surveys on the bottoms of most receipts you get now days.
The thing is, you need to give stuff up in order to be surveyed, so that someone will sell your name to a survey company.
So set up an alt email address for signup stuff and get all your phones on the do not call. You will get calls you don’t want but most polling places put it in their caller ID.
I’d ask Obama that question.
As for the GOP, Iowa is less important this year because of the number of idiots running.
I’d dearly love to be at the caucus. I’d be voting as a Republican and I’d be proudly standing with the Trump crowd. I’m sure I’d be smiling.
This is a great election cycle to be thinking of crossing over in the primaries and caucuses. You can help pick a “real” winner this way!

Trump is benefitting from the political concept of standing out from the field. If the other candidates look merely run-of-the-mill crazy, than portray yourself as batshit crazy and you will be noticed above all the rest… particularly among grass roots Repugs who really believe A) that it is the government of Mexico sending over that nation’s rapists and drug dealers (like Castro did in the 1980 Mariel boat lift), and B) Mexican illegals=rapists.
