Discussion: Trump On Shutdown Meeting Led By Pence: 'Not Much Headway Made Today'

At which point we can start asking him and his minions “So, does this mean that you’re going to start seizing farms along the border with Texas?”

Should go over well with his base…

Did I miss something? When did Mexico take back Texas?

The party message must be “WE DO NOT NEGOTIATE WITH TERRORISTS”.

Once they allow the hostage takers to gain concessions by shutting down the government, the government will be shut down more often than it is open.

I would expect that at some point Trump will make a dramatic faux “personal intervention” to “resolve” the situation (by caving with as much dignity as possible) - declare victory, apportion blame, and slink off to do his next futile attempt at deflecting attention from the Mueller probe. It will be interesting to see how Ms. Pelosi plays him.

mmm, that’s a little over the top. How about, “We don’t bargain with russians”?

So you missed where Donnie Dumbkopf threatened to use his super powers of “Emergency Decrees and Imminent Domains” to just start building the wall. In doing so, he’s going to have to seize private property, cut farms and ranches into pieces and isolate folks from their water supplies and such. And no, he’s not going to be seizing Mexican property (at least at this point, who knows what he has planned for tomorrow morning… )

That is what rationale GOPer would do, but I am not confident we are dealing with a rationale actor. I think the over / under that this ends with the Secret Service hauling his fat ass out if the WH in a straight jacket is 50/50.

I don’t think he would ever undertake an action to seize land. He would just threaten it and try to make himself look imperious. This is all racist performance art to appeal to his evangelical/white supremacist base. He needs a max turnout from them in Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona and Pennsylvania. That’s what this is about.

He’s very rational. He’s not fit for the job he holds, but he’s a savvy politician.

That would be a perfect fake news item. Plant it!

Moron Dickhead started it HE can end the situation .

How long before Pence receives the dreaded brand of ‘low-energy’ and ‘someone I hardly knew’, and gets to spend more time with his family?

Exactly - a wall made out of the same stealth material that F-22’s and F-35’s are made of.

The great negotiator has nothing to do with these meetings letting the 2nd or 3rd string carry all the water. Now why do I think his response, when they give, will be “not my fault” or some other Bull Phucky.

the President — who was not part of the meeting — tweeted that very little had been accomplished.

Trump’s negotiation theatre is behaving just as he wants it to. As long as Trump is not in the room, then he (or more likely Stephen Miller) can veto and scuttle any deal that is not a complete capitulation by the Dems.

Never negotiate with terrorists or hostage-takers. Especially when they’ve demonstrated a pattern and practice of dealbreaking.
