What I see is that outside of Murkowski, nobody wanted to tell the Emperor that he’s wearing no clothes. Murkowski, though, only voiced her concerns gingerly. No one is willing or able to tell Trump to sit down and shut up.
That said, Trump floating a DACA fix again also seems like something that is guaranteed to provoke a revolt. Trump can’t give anything to the Dems because any concession on DACA paves the way for comprehensive immigration reform which ends the white nationalist dream and the GOP will go the way of the CA GOP or even the Whigs.
In addition, Senators on the GOP side seem decidedly uneasy and Jeffries indicated that they expect more GOPers to vote for Pelosi’s bills in the House. I will be watching the vote count in the House on the bills Pelosi is bringing up this week (IRS bill is being debated today). If the number of GOPers who vote with the Dems exceeds 10, that would be a sign that Trump’s gambit is failing and he’ll have to make a decision to either declare a national emergency or fold completely.
