Discussion: Trump: Odds Of Lawmakers Making Funding Deal I'd Accept 'Less Than 50-50'

Kevin McCarthy makes Paul Ryan look like Nancy Pelosi.

tRUmpā€™s idea of negotiating is walking into a signing meeting after his staff has struck the deal. Then as people are signing heā€™ll stop and say ā€œone more thingā€. The demand is usually outrageous, already discarded, or some other nonsense. It is his way of saying ā€œI struck the dealā€. From my experience, being on the other side of that table, he gets his way if we just donā€™t care. However, the vast majority of the time we say no. He then goes into the rant, rage routine, as we are now seeing. That also usually does not work.

That is NOT snark.

As long as Senate Leader McConnell sticks to his pledge not to bring any immigration motion to the floor for a vote the president will veto, all Pres. Trump needs is a failed joint conference committee and 10 U.S.C. Ā§ 284 to build as many walls as he deems necessary without shutting down the government or declaring a national emergency.

Trump has trouble accepting that No means No. It meant No in December, means no in January, and it will mean no in February.

The guy ran a successful casino operation. He knows odds.

Nice try, David. Will go as far as your ā€œtwo citizen parentā€ birther nonsense went in getting Obama out of office (and good luck trying that with Kamala Harris). Drugs donā€™t come in across deserts and rivers with no roads. You canā€™t bring in meaningful amounts that way. Follow the El Chapo trial-they come in by the truckload through ports of entry. And lets stop blaming other countries for our drug problems. Itā€™s demand driven by Americans-capitalism says where there is a demand, there will be a supply.

Heā€™s all huf and puf. There is no way he can risk a veto override. That would be the end of him, and he knows it. Heā€™ll settle - for zero, if pushed. Better to allow him something to save face, though.

A permanent legislative solution for the Dreamers and refugees is the bare minimum if he gets any permanent structures. No temporary fixes in exchange for even one foot of fencing/slats/wall, whatever.

I love it when a failed casino owner uses gambling analogies. Roll those dice America!

Awesome.

Iā€™m going to make a little prediction here and letā€™s see if Iā€™m right. I predict that Spanky will commit an impeachable offense in his lust to secure ā€œa winā€ with this wall thing.

Ask Mulvaney how the president shutting down the structure of government and creating chaos among our allies abroad is defending the nation.

This shutdown really damaged McConnell. He has three choices.

  1. Push Trump to declare a national emergency and then sign whatever spending bills are passed by Congress.

  2. Actually vote for spending bills that provide a veto proof majority (as happened in December) and force Trump to eat it.

  3. Repeat this same nonsense of not sending up a bill to the WH that Trump wonā€™t sign and repeat the shutdown.

#3 would be a disaster for the GOP and the country.

#2 would be actual governance but would put the Senate GOP at odds with Trump on an important matter and effectively represent a clean break which the GOP has always feared would hurt them with the base.

#1 Would solve Congressā€™ problem but underscore Trumpā€™s issues of weakness, impotence, and the sense that he is out of touch.

so if I hear you correctly, theyā€™ll choose #3.

#3ā€™s not going to happen. McConnell already got burned doing that. Heā€™s not going to rush into a replay

My guess is that he thinks that negotiating equals weakness. Anyone who has negotiated anything In a professional context has dealt with a bully like him. They think that they can make offers that arenā€™t actual offers and that the other side will fold. In this case you mix in the sexism of dealing with a woman and it is, once again, the bully trying to get everything and offer nothing.
