Discussion: Trump: Military Will Take 'Big Step' Of Guarding US-Mexico Border

Hopefully NO!

Itā€™s a Big Step not given to the Executive in the Constitution. Federal troops can only be used to protect the nation against foreign powers that attack us like the Russians did with their cyber hacking. The 2nd Amendment is for raising militias to do Internal interstate security issues.

Is this a ploy to fire all the border guards (replacing them with the military) so he can use that money to build his Wall? His suggestion this weekend to take funds directly from the Pentagon didnā€™t go over so well with the Military Industrial Complex. The Con Man is obviously now trying to see how far he can scam the system in another direction.

Why does Trump love Putin so much and hates illegal landscapers and maids even more?

More like channeling his inner James K. Polk

From the They might be giants song.

ā€œAustere, severe, he held few people dear
His oratory filled his foes with fear
The factions soon agreed
Heā€™s just the man we need
To bring about victory
Fulfill our manifest destiny
And annex the land the Mexicans command
And when the votes were cast the winner was
Mister James K. Polk, Napoleon of the Stumpā€

If Trump dares to march his toy soldiers on Washington, the marches of Millennials on Mar-a-Largo and Trump Tower should be staggering in comparison.

Will there be enough to send to the border once he kicks out the transgender troops?

I think Cadet Bone Spur should take personal charge of these troops , and weā€™ll see if he starts a second Mexican War. Sad.

One of his advisors mentioned ā€œPosse Comitatusā€ and Trump replied, ā€œI do not know that woman. Fake news.ā€

Most of the military voted for Trump. They should be rewarded with a field trip to the Sonora Desert & the Big Bend in the summer.

Better at the border than some useless foreign war. I wonder what Texas Teatards have to say about this considering the Jade Helm ignorance.

Trump: If only the US-Mexico border could be as good as the barbwire, hyper-militarized DMZ between North and South Korea!!!

Posse Comitatus? Trumpkins will be really confused if he has to deal with a Latin dictionary.

Grab 'em by the Posse (Comitatus Act)!

I taught US History and Government courses at the public school and college level for years, and one of the things my students learned was that our military could not be used to enforce public policy unless federal and/or local legal authorities were unable to do so. The situation on our border with Mexico is not out of control except in the feeble minds of Trump and his supporters ā€¦ hopefully our military leadership will reject any such intervention.

MEXICO HAS NO NUKES !!!

But he does know about martial law. Maybe heā€™s been talking too much with Turkeyā€™s Erdogan? It was (is) a big concern of mine when trump took office that weā€™d end up like Turkey.

Breitbart? Oh for fucks sake.

Trump obviously doesnā€™t understand that according to the 1878 Posse Comitatus Act, he can only have National Guard troops operate on the border to enforce civilian policy.

I can imagine those Guard troops will really enjoy a long, hot Texas summer away from their day jobs and their families to enforce Trumpā€™s idea of border security.

Itā€™s in your own goddam story, AP.

Active duty U.S. troops were not used for the operation since there are
prohibitions on using so-called Title 10 troops for law enforcement and
similar duties within the United States.

The lead should have been that trump is either lying without compunction (something he says he makes a habit of doing with leaders of other countries) or else proposing a blatant violation of federal law. Or maybe casting as a ā€œBig Stepā€ something thatā€™s been done repeatedly before (using the national guard).
