“Where’s my Secretary of Everything? Jared! You’ve got work to do!”
I am confused. How does a temporary President of the US get to unilaterally decide where the capital of another sovereign country is to be located? The statement that he “would immediately declare” Jerusalem as the capital of Israel seems, to put it mildly, a tad presumptuous…
When there’s simply not enough tension in the Middle East …
And I’m sure this, from June 2016, is just purely coincidental.
Donald Trump announced that he has purchased property in Ramat Gan [a district in Tel Aviv], Israel, and plans to build a 70-story luxury-housing tower that would become the tallest building in Israel.
Trump Purchases Site for Trump Tower Israel, Ramat Gan, Israel
This is one can of worms that needs to be left sealed. If tRump actually moves the Embassy to Jerusalem all hell is going to break out. The Embassy will become one big target.
This just in- Putin has decided that the capital of the USA is Mar-a-Lago and will be moving the Russian embassy there.
Technically Congress decided to move it ages ago, but past presidents delayed enforcement for very practical reasons.
Cool. 2 birds, one nuke.
C’mon, Trumpp, you got elected by promising simple foreign-policy solutions that made America look badass and provided spoils for our treasury. This pussy footing around the phrase “undivided capital” reeks of diplomacy.
Claim Jerusalem for the US and announce that we will sell it to the highest bidder. Fuck you, world. We are riding the narcissism express train, and it doesn’t come with brakes.
“Trump Makes Known His Intent To Declare Jerusalem Israel’s Capital” (FIFY)
This will certainly help with the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, and with peace in the Middle East.
The U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem ordered its personnel and their families not to conduct personal travel to Jerusalem’s Old City or the West Bank due to fears of unrest over the expected U.S. announcement. The warning also urged American citizens to avoid large crowds or areas with increased police or military presence. Already, the State Department has warned U.S. embassies and consulates in the Muslim world of the possibility of Trump’s announcement provoking unrest.
Trump: “Hey, if you thought Beirut or Benghazi were bad, just watch this.”
He’s itching to bomb something in retaliation. Extremists attack US Embassy in some nation, war with Iran!
And North Korea!
And Côte d’Ivoire just for the hell of it!
He won’t because he has to have money from Congress to do that and Congress won’t give him the money.
I think the Israelis make the argument on the other side of your coin. “We say Jerusalem is our capital. We control it and it is where our Parliament meets. There is no other country in the world where its designated capital is not “recognized” by other countries.” By the way, Barack Obama made the same pledge when he first ran for President in 2008.
When the supposed lovers of Israel on the American right enter the White House, all the right wingers in Israel and the Adelson types in the U.S. celebrate. Why is it that Israel ends up facing a greater threat of terror and war by the time they’ve left office?
Trump wants a war! Any war. Against anyone. For any reason. Anywhere: North Korea, the Middle East, Mexico, Alabama; anywhere will do so long as its big enough, and bloody enough that it will give him a hard-on.
He appears to be lighting as many Molotov cocktails as he can. I wonder what he’s worried about?
