No deal is good enough for DJT.
I imagine that Mueller doesnât really need to have an interview with Trump, which means that Trumpâs only negotiation insight is not effective in this case. Trump needs to have this investigation into his misdeeds, and those of his campaign, be over, without casting any shadows over his illusory sense of himself as a master of, well, any number of things. Baring a complete and catastrophic failure of what remains of the system, I donât see how that happens. (Please Mr. Mueller, donât let me down. You are pretty much my final hold on a reality that makes any sense at all.)
Idunnoâthe source was described as âpeople familiar with the matterâ. Thatâs pretty thin even for a Trump story.
Muellerâs people arenât chatty sorts, so it is most likely self-stroking by one of Trumpâs lawyers, or ex-lawyers. I suspect more pr horseshit- perhaps Rudy is thinking himself especially clever this morning.
Dowd wrote a 20 page letter to justify turning down an interview which every other innocent elected official in the United States would run not walk to attend and which included Alan Dershowitzâs theory on why a Republican President, like Louis XIV, is such an exalted being that he should never be required to answer questions, because on matters of The Doctrine of Colluding with Our Enemies and Obstruction of Justice, a Republican President is Infallible.
I have no doubt that the egomaniac in the Oval Office desperately wants to work his bigly deal making skillz on Mueller. But his feral survival instinct wonât let him. So heâll keep going back and forth and back and forth. I wonât believe this interview will happen until they strike a commemorative coin celebrating the occasion.
Unless he makes it first. Then itâs the greatest deal ever!
Close counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. And nuclear war.
âŚand last between two and six hoursâŚ
Iâm thinking it will probably need to last 2 to 6 months based on what I know of Donald and how long it was rumored it took him to answer just a couple practice ones with his own lawyers.
Just like the US-North Korean summitâŚainât never gonna happen.
Iâm just waiting for more indictments. The rest of this is superfluous and distracting and I just wish they would get on with it and hope that this isnât just one big smokescreen with this investigation.
I know, I know: it took a longer time for Watergate and all that, but in a day and time with tremendous advances in technology and folks on the team that are practiced in these kinds of investigations, Iâm wondering why more activity hasnât come to pass.
In the meantime, the shiny distraction today is Weinstein having turned himself in. Thatâll make a big difference in the world order [\s].
You forgot DDT, but I guess that stuff is illegal now.
Trump is a dope but he isnât a fool, he knows that Mueller will wipe the floor with him and more importantly he wonât be able to spin it.
Youâre a generous sort.
Trumpâs real reason was he could not Tweet the answers even though Mueller would be sitting in front of the POS.
If I were to say that the Republican Party has only gone downhill since Watergate, you might say that such understatement is naĂŻve and conceals the most obvious truth about the party.
With all of the current news on the investigation that made it to us Thursday, this is the top story here? Man, I just donât know.
I really wish that Muellerâs team would just tell Trumpâs âlegal teamâ (and TPM - when referring to Trumpâs lawyers, those two words should always be in quotations), âOh, thatâs OK! You can just go back and tell His Highness that we have everything we need here, and he can go back to Tweeting his insults to the world. We wouldnât want to impose upon his busy schedule. But we would like a few hours/days/weeks with Mr. Giuliani and Mr. Flood, though.â
Thatâs fine and you can blame the âlawyersâ but I think thatâs lazy. What I think keeps happening is that we âalmostâ have a deal and then for some reason Donnie and the Trumpsters âthinkâ if they âalmostâ have a deal then itâs no good. Buyerâs remorse.
Dowd sent Muellerâs team a 20-page letter to reject the interview and laid out the constitutional reasons Trump shouldnât have to testify.
