“He calls it ISIL because nobody else does, and he wants to bother people by using a different term, and whether it’s more accurate or not — most people call it ISIS. He calls it ISIL,” Trump said on CNBC."
This is yet another statement that reveals Trump’s own extreme pettiness and thus more about him than it does Obama. Of course, the president is more concerned with accuracy than popularity, and accuracy should be a president’s utmost concern, but in Trump’s mind the only reason the president wouldn’t go with the more popular term is in order to needle people because that’s how Trump operates. He uses insulting terms, less popular terms because he seeks to bother others and he thinks that’s why someone else would do it too. I would call him a child, but children deserve better.
Listen here, Buster. At 14 I knew enough to stay away from Jane Austen’s novels (but not Sinclair Lewis’s It Can’t Happen Here, as luck would have it). And at 75 I’m still leaving Ms. Austen’s scribblings on the shelf in favour of David Cay Johnston’s The Making of Donald Trump (Damn! I had to type that vulgar turd’s name in the interest of misguided propriety. Shit!) Screw Marvel Comics - Mad Magazine rocked in my teen years.
But, yeah. I agree. Jesus H. Christ I’m getting sick of that man.
I’m sure it takes a few hours to get him “camera-ready” with all the spray tan and hair-floofing. He’s probably phoning it in while sitting on the toilet.
He’s probably phoning it in while sitting on the toilet.
He’s straining while sitting on the toilet, because I guarantee you that he’s chronically constipated. Fresh fruits and vegetables—not to mention any kind of real physical exercise—play no role in his diet, which consists almost entirely of high-fat, low-bulk fast food. And straining on the toilet can lead to hemorrhoids and painful rectal itch, which given his disposition, would seem to be likely.
No, Donnie, there’s nothing wrong with saying this. Keep it up! You’re doing great! Everyone’s talking about you, your rallies are eating it up, you are channelling a surging current of rage, and it feels good to vent. Beautiful!
Here’s a new flash for Trump ( but most Americans could use it ). Much of the time a perfect of a translation of a phrase from one language to the other cannot be made. Literal translations are often disasters. So what you do, if you’re good at both languages, is provide a translation of what the words meant and not the words. Sometimes that’s also tough to do.
Try translating the American phrase “kicking ass and taking names”. I was tasked to do that when taking a language class in Germany. I am a native speaker of Dutch ( a language that’s probably structured more like English than any other on the planet ) and with some similarity to German and it kicked my ass. The American style bravado behind the phrase was not ( then ) a part of European culture. So “swinging a hammer and collecting documents” was the best I could do. That’s kicking ass and taking names in America.
ISIS is an English acronym that fails to accurately translate the meaning of the Arabic terms used for the same folks. Islamic State in Iraq and Syria is American literal in terms of our concern with that entity. Islamic State in Iraq and Levant is an English attempt at acronym for the goals of IS. That’s what they say is their goal ( the Levant includes Israel ). Then there’s Daesh the best word for them but it’s been horrible translated in several languages.
The point: is to be understood. If you know what ISIS is and you know that’s what someone is talking about when they say ISIL you’re equivocating and taking feigned cheap shots.
Christ, it’s like Rush Limbaugh is the Repub candidate. Trust me, in Texas “we” elected a right-wing radio yapper as lieutenant governor, and it’s not a pleasant sight to see him over his head and incapable of evolving into a capable leader.
Yeah, I read that one before I read this article, so I had that in mind
Up until a few days ago, I was absolutely convinced that he was going to drop out before Election Day because he couldn’t take the humiliation of being a LOSER. But in the past couple of days I have become more and more convinced that he will stick it out, sucking up that mindless adoration of the ill-educated masses until that teat runs dry. And then, he will live on beyond the defeat, because he will have all of his slaverng zombies sucking up to him after the loss, wailing and tearing their clothes about the rigged election. So, he’s already resigned himself to losing and will now just play it to “win” through the cult of his faithful Koolaid drinkers.
WTF? Will he accuse the President of the United States of killing JFK next? He is a liar, but his attacks on Mr. Obama sicken me. He sounds like the worst kind of bigoted idiot who couldn’t stomach the idea of a (half-) black man sitting in the Oval Office. I really do hope he gets slammed by the voters, losing both the popular and the Electoral College votes by “yuge” margins. He is a disgusting example of the worst instincts and most base thinking in this country, if not the world. He’s also an ignoramus of colossal proportions; “ISIL” is exactly as good a name for these terrorists as “ISIS,” but Trump is too stupid to understand the difference.
Yet another example of Trump running against the true opponent in his head. He is running against Obama in his twisted mind - not Hillary. The man is deranged.
